Drive out to Kingwood this weekend, We'll build new parts and Tutorialize it... got a pile of foam mats to cut up...

I might just do that though with my Wife in and out of the hospital for the last 2 weeks I might work through the weekend to try and get some time in at my real job lol. Ill let ya know though.

How much was each pack of foam from harbor freight(there is a store in my area, and I would like to know before making the trip down to get get some)?

Sorry about the double post for update!

I finished the other guantlet this morning before I start working on the sniper rifle for Mr Lee. Not screen accurate but close enuff for me lol I decided to go with a grey base and weathered red accents on this suit similar to Emiles suit.

Cheers!

It looks like the paint turned out great! So did you end up going with the plasti dip? And I love your handplates by the way! I may have to get with you on possibly snagging a cold cast pull in flex foam... And good luck wrapping up the rifle! I can hardly wait!!!

I used plastidip as a primer once that set I laid down a light coat of smoke grey satin then drybrushed, airbrushed, etc etc etc just like normal, but with really light coats so flaking and cracking would be minimal. I also cast up a set of handplates with a 320 shell and ridgid foam core super light but still ridgid to reduce damage. 2 plates ready for paint weigh 1.9 ozs crazy light compared to a solid cast from 320 they weigh 4 ozs each.

Cheers!

Hey Privateer, as I said before I'm really loving this build. In fact, I went out and bought foam earlier this week to test it out and see if I'm any good at it. I have read other threads about the process including other forums, though before I start I have a few questions. To begin with, are you sure you used Rundown's chest model? It definitely looks similar but there's no ab plate on the actual model. (Or did you use your own template?) Also, how many mats did you use for the chest alone? I only bought a single pack of the mats and I would like to know how far I can get with it. I'm also interested in how you did the details.
I came to you because I like your build the most and I actually four your thread first. If you'd rather send an email, send one to jsmith.12.fff@gmail.com. Though I understand if you'd actually rather keep your secrets. Thanks for any help and again, lovin' the build. I hope mine goes any where near as well as yours is.

Hey Privateer, not sure if you know this but you can get the Plast-Dip spray in Clear online. I ordered some along with Anything Foam to do some testing of materials for my builds. Just waiting for it to get here.

Privateer, I don't know if you considered this, but what about using traditional polyurethane resin? I doubt it'll melt the foam (would actually defeat the purpose of the foam), and if it works, you get a nice, sealed surface as well as added durability of the suit.

Wow, all the detail! Just curious, but is the process of building a piece of armor take longer by pepping or using the foam?

This is gonna look so professional looking when it's done! (yes I used "look" twice, shut up Rick.). I love the way you sealed and painted it, it' looks like real metal. XD I'm gonna keep tabs on this thread, cuz I'm using foam too. <3

Harbor Freight is where you get them. Please read the thread, I stated this 5 posts ago and he posted about it back near the beginning with a picture.
well, im not sure what a "harbor freight" is, i live on maui, and there are plenty of things lacking here :p

It is that freight place, over by your local harbor. :p

Wait. I thought it was the harbor over by the local freight place.

Ironium, google and see if you have one close to ya. I didn't think I did either until I searched. It is an awesome hardware store that will suck many monies away from you.

Back on topic; this build is just getting better as the paint's completed!
