like here is my latest theory... when the collider turns on, the magnets will put out such a force on earths magnetic field that compassas all over the world will be useless....
I'd be more concerned about the structure holding the magnets apart, whether they themselves can withstand the magnetic forces that they're going to produce. It might collapse first before the magnets can establish a magnetic field large enough to disrupt field lines in a nearby town, never mind the earth's.

btw this is based on no scientific evidence, just wanted to prove how dangerous theorys can be when the wrong person starts talking.
Yeeaaah,....let's leave that to the people who actually do this for a living.

You know you guys were asking for this. Definition time with Sigma.

How it happens in science.

You think you observe that something will happen differently than what it expected. You have an IDEA.

You find a way to test your IDEA, then you have a HYPOTHESIS.

The HYPOTHESIS has been tested and proven positive so many times from different angles that you know something will happen a certain way all of the time even if the process is not completely understood. You have a THEORY.

Your evidence is so irrefutable through thousands and millions of experiments that your THEORY must in fact be considered a LAW of science. In all the time that the THEORY has existed the original idea has held up as-is. Unfortunately these are like 5-star generals. Nobody comes up with new LAWs of science anymore. The highest status an idea can attain after decades of grueling experimentation is THEORY.

So, not a word that should be thrown around too lightly with scientists about. ;) You can tell it's one of my buttons. :p
