Ta dudes.

Things have slowed a little due to having to spend time constructing the observatory, but I made some late-night progress tonight.

Stomach and waist armour ready for resin.

Just doing some minor improvements today. The fake screws I engraved into the helmet really didn't look good, so today I drilled and countersunk the helmet in those locations, then screwed in some brass screws. Looks heaps better.

Just wanted to drop in and say how awesome your armor is looking. I love how much detail you are putting into it and I can't wait to see how it all comes together. :D

Thanks mate, every little detail enhances the end result. Taking time is always a good thing.

Tonight I worked on the LED's for the eyes. I was advised to add a 1K resistor, but I did that only to find that adding the resistor dims all the LED's down to absolutely useless.

So, I removed the resistor and hooked it up to four LED's. Perfect and as bright as they were in the old torch I pulled them out of. Then I hooked it up to the remaining four that were in the torch also. Perfect again. Looks like the torch didn't need a resistor, so just because they are joined now via wires instead of a board, it seems it doesn't necessarily mean they need a resistor all of a sudden.

Busy night tonight. Four hours in the shed with a bunch of scraps, just like Mr Stark in a cave...

Thanks to Xrobots for the ideas, I found some equivalent gear in the $2 shop, plus some junk from my shed and put together an arc-reactor to mount in the chest of my suit.

Gorgeous work! I am staggered by the craftsmanship going into this! Keep it up!

Love the reactor man. I wished I could do a fully detailed one like yours but there's no need for the MK VI.

Cheers blokes.

1. Rondo (car-body-filler mixed with fibreglass resin) slush casting on the inside of the pepakura paper armour.

2. Parts of the armour amassing in the shed.

3. Got to mount the battery pack for the eye-lights in the faceplate. Making a paper template first to be traced onto metal.

4. Metal battery-pack holder fabricated by hand and drilled to provide grip for liquid-nails on the inside of the faceplate.

5. Battery-pack holder liquid-nailed in place. Leaving for a few days to harden completely.

Glad you're enjoying the build with me fella's.

Wiring in the lights for the eyes on the inside of the faceplate. Some wiring harness to organise and some reflector/shielding to reflect the light forward but shield my own eyes from direct light.

Coming together nicely man. I have to admit I am starting to lean towards the way you have done your eyes now. Just can't quite let go of the frosted plastic method.

Watching as always,
Tom.

I think frosted would be pretty good mate. I just don't like the idea of having open slots to see through. How's yours coming along?

Just got back so great timing on the update :p Great job mate, will defs be asking you for help with the wiring of my MJOLNIR, if you don't mind that is.

Just been out to get supplies to make some screw details then going finish getting the ear placement area ready for the ears to go in. I will annoyingly have to make new ears though as the original ones are too small :(

Once those bits are done I will start working on my hinging. The good thing about the time taken to get here is I have had a lot of time to plan exactly how the hinges will be made. I want it so you can't see them at all from the sides and yet still have the visor lay nice and snug on top of the helmet.

Progress is going great man :)
I like the way you did your eyes for the helmet. The other pieces of the armor are looking awesome as well :)

I agree with you about the hinges Tom. Visor placement and position is key when it is in the open position. I've seen several builds that look great until the visor opens, then it ends up looking like a huge racing spoiler on the back of Honda. You're really doing great work SB. :D

Thanks mate.

1. Using the spring out of a pen soldered onto the wire and hot-glued to the inside of the faceplate, when the faceplate closes it contacts the bent-over spade connector glued inside the jaw.

2. Completed eye illumination rig. Now to put some shielding over them to dress it off and also reflect the light forward through the glass.

3. Faceplate closes, eyes light up!
