That is some damn fine mark 5 if I can say from a position of authority on the subject. ;)

I managed to trash my boot covers and I think I am going to take your idea with some bent steel to put over the laces.
I would highly recommend filling in the V neck region though as it's a pretty large space on the Mark 5. I use black craft foam that I have dry brush weathered. You should also wear the breast plate much higher. The empty area between the stomach plate and the bottom of the breast should be much larger, plus it will make your neck look smaller. Fill in the chest with foam to make it a tighter fit. My breast sits at least 5 inches away from my actually chest because of foam. Doing that will natural make it sit high and bring your backpack lower. It will improve your profile and silhouette quite a bit.

Another thing you might want to do is dry brush the edges of the armour. Your crack paint weather looking good but the edges usually wear first before paint cracks.

cheers.

edit:

you may also want to check out this thread that I explain my strapping method since mine is a mark 5 as well.

Thanks for the kind words, Moz. That means lot coming from you, I as trying to do your MK 5 files justice when I built it :)

Fixing the chest is the first thing on my list, and I will be doing that as soon as I get back down to University and have the time and good weather to haul the armor out and work on it.

Is it thread Necromancy if it's my thread with updates on my build? I don't think so... but I apologize in advance if it is. There is a nation wide chain of clothing stores called Goody's. They are going out of business, all the furniture in the store is half off. This includes mannequins. So for $80 I now have a mannequin in apartment on campus. We also had some unseasonably warm weather, so I was able to do some work and tighten up the chest so it will sit higher. I also got my gloves for the costume. So here is the suit as it stands now (Minus the forearms, they won't fit on the mannequin, hands are too big and don't come off) on my new friend, who I have decided to name Rupert.

Sorry you lost dude. :(/sad.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' />" border="0" alt="sad.gif" /> Who won?

I did not mind at all losing to who I did. He was a very nice gentleman who had an incredible Battlestar Galactica Viper Pilot costume that he actually made/sewed himself. He did an excellent job, even got the same fabric they use in the show which is next to impossible to do since you have to get a enough people together to order an industrial size bolt of fabric, like 300 yards, becuase that's the only way the manufacturer will sell it. We talked for a while and I was glad he won.

Plus I still won 20 bucks, a messenger bag and 3 posters :)/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />

yeah, i know what you mean. i went to a costume themed youth group event as the joker.

i came second, but the guy who camed first had a full body mario costume and truth be told, i voted for him too.

you gain a certain respect for other peoples costumes once you try to make one yourself.
