Ive been trying to start this for a while, and now Ive finally posted pics. Ive actually been working on this for the past two days and heres what I got so far:
DSC00144.jpg

This is the parts pile. In the left is the cover/faceplate, the top middle is the back (upside down), under that is the top with the forehead detail, and right:top is the other side of the cover, and the last piece on the left is the bottom of the chin. Ive already got the optics planned out but I wont spoil that. Heres a spoiler though:
DSC00146.jpg

This detail on the side should be a little pepakura piece shaped like a phillip's head bolt, and i will be replacing this with a real phillip's head bolt and leaving the open edge there. This way i will be able to remove the top cover for maintanance of the equipment.

looks good. clean and crisp. but could you focus the camera on the second pic. its all blury and hard to see waht it is.

I'm pretty excited to see more as Gungir is one of my favorite helmets and they seem to be few and far between on this site. I'll be following this thread closely! Nice pep work so far too.

oh yea thats right. finding the pep file is easy but the actual build is like a needle in a haystack.
lol i actually tried that but thats another story for another day.

Its kind of hard to do because when it was unfolded that left alot of very small pieces that i cant see the numbers on, and alot of the parts overlap themselves. I dont think thats the modeler's fault but maybe the unfold was a little too quick. I like the open edge because like i stated earlier the top cover/faceplate will be removeable.

nice work! i think you should go for the gold and install a heads up display and the camera to run it, that would be righteous! could probably use an old cell phone for the components... also like the idea of the bolt on mod - which kindof makes me think your gonna do the HUD neway lol :) look forward to seeing more..

I was actually hoping to find an LCD cell phone or camera screen and a small camera at my local radioshack. Even if I couldnt get a camera that small for a good deal heres my next plan. As I am making a sniper I will use the RS remote sensor camera package on the camera side. I could actually fit a larger camera in that and make some space inside the helmet to prevent overheating.

righteous. let me know if you need any help with circuit bending. your gonna want to make sure the screen output is adjustable so it doesnt hurt your eyes, if its not adjustable then you will need to install a small potentiometer and turn the voltage down as low as possible to still function but not glare...

you know sikaxis had a pretty cool way of making the helmet work out, only if you couldn't find a way to install the camera in the helmet. he also has the little "chops" on the sides

Well when I get the camera and screen I will tell the wiring people what I got and then we can get to wiring, as I cant wire anything that involves a computer of any kind. I happen to be a mechanical man.

Edit, I pulled another allnighter and finished some more:
DSC00148.jpg

I completed the right side (not as easy as it looks its like 5 parts and one very thin long strip with alot of tabs.

DSC00147.jpg

I also finished the chin, and I will begin reinforcing parts with cardboard when I get the back attached to this.

Why dont I need to sleep anymore!?

Okay its tomorrow, or later, i dont know i havent slept for a while and I just figured out its not still friday.....

Anyway I finished some more of the helmet:

I finally put the other side onto the cover, and:

I finally started building the bottom,

Basically im going to complete the circle on the bottom, and add the back of the helmet onto that. Then I will add supports to the cover and base to keep their shape, and build the attachment points where the cover is bolted in, and one for the HU/RS camera that pops onto the side. Then I will make another camera attachment point on the other side, and the front of the respirators (on the sides) will have an attachment point for the EOD rebreathers.

Looks really great! But just in case you want to, which I doubt you do, here's another file (imho a little better), completely HD, no details left out: If you really want But given the work you've already put in, I'd recommend against it. Just wanted to inform you there was another file floating about.

looking really good Toa, keep it up. Are you going to keep the GUNGNIR theme for the entire costume? Was thinking that this helmet is going to be very front heavy with the electronics and all, you may wish to include some form of neck support or at least an extra strap that connects to the backpiece.. my cousin and i were discussing magnetic attachments between the neck portion of the undersuit and the helmet, that way the undersuit can distribute some of the weight, its an idea we were toying around with for our kevlar helmets but it actually may come in handy for costumes.. neway great job!

Ps, Get some Sleep!

I wont keep the GUNGNIR theme as I will use a sniper, so it will probably be:
-HP parafoil (and the parafoil carapace because im going all out) (does "going all out" mean what it sounds like?)
-Gungnir helmet with Hu/RS camera attachment (maybe the one with the rebreathers added on when im done.)
-Shoulders will most likely be security right, and the left will be commando
-The knees will be grenadier.
-The forearm attachment will probably be the giant brace Jorge uses, and it will be on my right arm.
-The utility will most likely be the CHOBHAM thingy, (upgrade to UA/NR whatever its called later) and it will be on my right leg.
Then the primary and secondary will be my custom mixtures of desert tan (I get it perfect) and the little red +
Any other questions asked the visor color (tiny camera lens color) will be black.

Also I basically completed all of the seperate Gungnir parts, except some side detail.
DSC00151.jpg

I attached the back to the top, and I just need one more part on the cover to complete that.
Then I add the chin to the back, and I end up with the base helmet, and a seperate cover.

The reason I will have the attachments like the wrist and utility on the right is because I shoot lefty, so my right side is armored and my left is only covered by the large commando shoulder to save weight. Also I will keep my combat knife on my left thing.

wow, this is really coming together - and fast! Nice to know there's someone else out there that fires lefty lol. are you putting any electronics in the 'giant brace Jorge uses'? if so i will plan to include that in the wiring schematic from the beginning...

Heres what I want to do, see if this could work:

All of the batteries for the lights on the suit will be stored In the front of the chest. The helmets battery boxes will be seperate interchangeable units that are stored in the chest, and plug into the base of the helmet, under the neckseal. I was thinking about the bracer and heres what will go in it: The repair and maintainance kit with the screwdrivers, superglue, epoxy and patches !

that sounds good, i really like the repair kit idea! the only thing you may want to add are several 80mm fans for ventilation, you may even be able to fit this into your rebreather concept..

Actually I was already thinking of that. The helmet has two respirators. They are on the sides of the lower helmet, and have a front and back, for 2 intakes, and 2 exausts. I could literally just use 2 fans. Also, just added the respirators and attached the chin to the back. Now all I need to do is add some on the sides, and then some cardboard reinforcing and scratchbuilding.

WOW this looks incredible the pepping and folds look very clean, i see some spots where the paper just does not want to do what you tell it but that’s nothing a little sanding can’t fix. In all honesty this is the first GUNGNIR i have seen and now seeing it i want to make one after my Jorge Build. Keep it up man this looks awesome

But wait thers more!
DSC00152.jpg

I finally finished the pep. As you can see It is in two pieces for seperate resining and fiberglassing.
I will get some resin on friday (Its a few days but thats as soon as I can get it)
Heres a view of the back:
DSC00154.jpg

Its pretty spacious but it does squeeze a little at the sides because of those side details that go inwards.
I removed all tabs from areas that will have the respirators vents and inwards details as I will scratchbuild those to provide proper ventilation.

Heres a view of the inside (which provides no view currently)
DSC00153.jpg

It has a few inches of space for the equipment which is nice.
