Unfolding tips?

I have a 3d model im trying to unfold but when I did I got TONS of tiny tabs and all the numbers are jammed together cause the sides are so small. Is there a way to create less tabs without altering the model? I couldn't find and tutorials on unfolding models so I figured I would post this. Any help is appreciated! Thank you
