yha, so i know this isnt halo, and it isnt armor, but it did require quite abit of engineering to get everything to work out smoothly. and since this project has pretty much consumed my life and is preventing me from offically starting my armor, i thought id share.
So without further delay! (thanks to Danya for photos) :

front view closed wings, the feathers are real turkey feather, its being supported by an aluminum wire and cardboard frame, feathers stuck on by alot of epoxy. fishing line is being used for articluation, will later be made into an arm gauntlet.

close up front view, hopefully you can see here, but i used actually patterns of birds wings for the feathers, i didnt want to spare any details!

one wing articulated, so you can see the diffrence, i think my full wingspan is about 6 feet (note, i am under 5 feet tall) so i was having some difficulties with the articulation mechanism, which i fixed shortly after this shoot.

glorious full wingspan

Back view, as you can see its not done yet, actually the glue wasnt dry, i lost a feather around this time, haha

this was a movement text, i like how the wings curve, looks like a birds flapping or defensive posture;

and then i was told to dance....

so thats all for now! if you have any questions or requests id be happy to respond!!
Thanks for taking a look!<3

These a certainly some pretty cool wings you've got here. My only complaint is that they seem a bit low on your body. Perhaps move them to shoulder blade level? Other than that, they are fantastic. Where did you get the feathers from?

Thanks! im still working on the mount, thatll be something i do last, because the feathers are surprisingly heavy,(i think the darn thing weighs about 7 or 8 lbs) i tried to constantly ajust it at first, but i found that it wasnt worth the effort, hopefully itll be done by next week, and will look right when i get my costume all stiched together!

I must say, those are some pretty impressive wings! I love the fact that you use real feathers, too. I agree though, they do look pretty low on your back. But keep it up, they look great.

awesome wings! if only you had a halo! haha!! love the saturday night fever referance, sadly im going to nerd out and say that your pose needs to be fixed! :p hand off your hip, arch ur back and arm goes up straight in the air! JK!

try using a rig with a waist belt, possibly even a hiking backpack rig, those are meant to sit on your hips and lift the pack just above your shoulder. plus they are designed for anywhere from 30 to 50 lbs or more!

I built some 8' wingspan leather wings that weighed about 40 lbs. a few years ago. What I did was use a steel bar contoured to the shape of the spine as the main load bearing structure. shoulder straps that made an "X" across the chest, and came down to a belt. The bar was attached to the back of the belt with lots of padding between the bar and the lower back. Coming off the belt were straps in front and back that came down and looped around smaller belts around the upper thighs. It is a lot of rigging, but it distributes the weight well and doesn't make it feel like you are going to fall over backward. If this description isn't clear, here's a crappy illustration. Since your wings are much lighter, you can omit the leg straps part of the rig.

Those wings look killer! Once you get the rig worked out to support them they will be perfect. Great job! :D

brilliant project you have going on there, looks amazing. are you building any kind of suit to go with this or is it stand alone?
I think i might have to build some myself, problem is i'll have an urge to jump off something and see if they work lol

That's a great set of wings you have going there. I would never have thought to try something like that, it's quite original. It reminds me of the Maximum Ride novels. xD

thanks, im actually gona be using this for a max cosplay >,< the wings are actually done now, just some wings are falling out, its just the glue is making me sick, so i have to stay away from my creation for awhile before i finially finish it. the straps will be covered by a loose pirate like shirt with slits in the back. within another week or two they should be all ready for test flight!
