Windows 7 Beta

I'm downloading it again - just so I'm sure I have a very good copy. I also have 2 keys if anyone needs one. Send me a PM and I'll fire it off to you. So far I'm not really impressed but it runs better than Vista ever thought about on my comp. Here's what I have right now:

AMD Sempron 3300+ (2.0 GHz)
1.5 Gig memory
256 MB video card (Nvidia 6200)
3 hard drives

Just downloaded the IDO and i'm going to try this out a bit later on of of the backup HDD's i have
my system:
Dell xps M1710
intel duo 2.33 GHz
4 GB RAM
onboard nVidia graphics
80 GB internal SATA, 250 GB external USB and 1TB external eSATA

Even with vista home premium on this, the system took forever to boot on a fresh install and even though my system exceeded requirements for some of my games, the games always ran laggy or not at all. I think the only thing I was able to successfully install and play on here was Star Craft and Uplink.

Gave extra key to Ithica. Might still be of use to others. Let me know if anyone needs one. Haven't tried to play any of my games yet. Net works well as do all local progs. DL speed seems a little slow but it's a beta. I'm hoping the final is even more stable and faster than XP. Might just have to upgrade. I'll keep posting any problems I run into.

I ran 7 on vista premium with no problems at all. I ran 2142 and it worked OK up until i went to join a server and said invalid CD key, and i realised it is because im trying it on this OS. Dawn of War worked fine, and about the CD Key, it asked for one but i didn't put one in. I just hit next. What do i get to do with a CD key that i can't do without one?

You need a product key to activate Windows 7 and ensure its a genuine copy and not pirated.

When you download the beta from the website you’ll be given a product key. Be sure to use the product key to activate the Beta within 30 days, or the Beta’s functionality will be limited. Your product key will work for up to three separate computers, so if you want to install the Windows 7 Beta on another PC, you can re-use the same key.

I downloaded it from one of the links on the first post and I didn't see anything about a key, so do I need one? or does it come up when i install? (if not i need one)

also can a revert to xp anytime or do i have to reinstall it again?

when you start your computer, it will ask you if you want to run windows 7 or windows XP before it boots up.

And where abouts should this CD Key be? inside the file i downloaded?

you need to goto microsofts website at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/default.aspx

go there and hit try the beta, youll either need to sign in or to create a windows live account. Once you do that, you'l get the key and a download link.

My main problem with vista is the fact that it's SO incompatible. Also, W7 Supports multitouch, IQ500 + Multitouch = Win.

Windows 7 is also a lot less buggy then Vista IMO. I am glad I grabbed it as it seems a lot nicer then Vista.

Also, I was one of the lucky few to actually get ahold of a Key for it before the servers crashed and they took it all offline. Looks like anyone who didn't get the beta or key's will have to wait for them to get it all sorted.

@TF Prod, It's not terrible downloading 3.2 gigs, I did it in less then 10 minutes at about 5-6 meg's per second. I've done almost 5 gig's in 12 minutes before if that get's me anything xD.

It is if you only have 1mbit/s download (= 7 hours download time) then again, I don't normally download stuff...

Actually, I found Windows 7 is not as compatible as Vista, it doesn't like my network adapter (in Vista - no problem!) o_O

Anyway, I fail to see the difference to Vista. it's not faster, not prettier, not different... and it's product number is 6.1 (not 7). I think, Microsoft is just rebranding Vista, because that has such a bad reputation. Turns out, the Windows 7 Beta test ist just a big Mojave Experiment... :p

EDIT: It did install faster, but on my rig (2.4 Ghz Quad-Core, 4GB RAM, 500GB RAID, GeForce 9800GTX+), running it makes no difference. I might benchmark GTA IV on Windows 7, that is one resource hungry game.

I have a frankenstein laptop I'm using over here and one thing that Iraq has going for it is cheap software. The connection here sucks so bad downloading is almost impossible (almost). I decide to buy this OS for a whopping $5.00 and it comes with a bunch of other software to install as well for free. I caught hell form the beginning, I ended up haveing to reformat my partition so all files would install. I love the look and it is really easy to use. The secnd issue I had was I lost sound of course but that was expected. Then I tried to install itunes and had an issue with that but eventually fixed it. Now I'm at the internet cafe downloading my driver for my sound card along with the newest version of Media Player and and a few other things. Long story short it is just tipical for windws as far as bugs go but it is beta so I'm hoping for the best. If this is 7 then why does it refer to XP as far as software? I alos got a dock kinda like apple uses and I really like that. Overall not to bad.

i still haven't been able to put this on my sister's old toshiba. everytime i pop the disc with the burned ISO image on it, it tells me the 'spwizeng.dll' is either not designed to run on windows or contains an error (leaning toward error unless M$ has decided their own software shouldn't be compatible with other windows based computers).

My crappy high speed is 7mbit/s
Wait, like true 7mbits/s, or theoretical, so actual speeds about 700kbps??

Were still on copper phone lines in most of Aus, our speeds sucks, and our stupid government are too damn cheap to do anything about it!!!

Have you checked 64bit/32bit stuff? Your image may be 64 bit, but her laptop only does 32?

I think, it's not the government, it's the lazy telecommunication companies. thy just don't give a damn, but you can't really "live without internet", or telephones for that matter, and one isn't better than the other, so switching is pointless.

acording to a seminar i had gone to recently vista as it was announced was mostlikely going to be a huge success with new hardware but a beast to enjoy the experience. so in all ends meet the guys presenting had said that in microsoft that vista was more of a benchmarker of what the hell the community wanted.. everyone wanted security and microsoft delivered... it ended up being too much so alot of stuff ripped from vista and xp has been implemented into windows 7 (no official name yet)

due to this mergeing of intrest across the media and consumers microsoft has changed its thoughts and used beta as a benchmark/beta throughout its existince, so whether you like it or not vista was never supposed to be the new thing that was released but consumers wanted it and so microsoft released it. windows 7 is predicted that the beta will be either shorter a time or a longer time out to work out most bugs with it. also the newer windows will have more hardware features than vista and wasnt designed around hardware and security... kid you not the hard ware and security is there its just not as bloody anoying to click 50 things to get something to open anymore.

windows 7 when released will be the new vista but without the backlog and stupidity and failure hat plauged the vista os. but other than a "dummiefied system" now in production things are going to change. especially the old vista way of 1 disk 6 different vista installs depending on cd key you install.

my prediction... 7 wont be as stupid and wont be as much as a failure in vista's total operation time... so as someone had said xp on stairoids..... well thats an understatement in my opinion... id say xp changed from a streamlined car to a super train with all the luxuries of a mansion.

regards
fluffy

Something thats weird is even though it is an updated vista it still uses XP drivers. Appearently it is actually XP Based. Anyway where can I get Codecs for Windows 11 or just windows.
