So, after searching off-and-on since Halo: CE was released, I finally found a 1/10-scale warthog body shell for my Traxxas E-Maxx. Proline released a shell kit named the "Helios", model # 3276-00. I think this was released sometime in early 2009. It is formed from tough polycarbonate/lexan, and some parts come pre-masked.
I have already removed most of the "flash" from the body; those of you who have done this know how tough this can be sometimes. Anyway, I still need to clean up some areas before I start painting.
I will be masking the windows and "cockpit"; I will not be removing the cockpit plastic, to help maintain body strength.
The paints U wiull be using: Racing Finish: Indy Silver (#RC262) spray on the inside of the shell as a base coat. On the outside: Tamiya: Racing Green (#PS-22). I compared several shades of green (lid colour only) and decided this one had the closest shade. I will then hand paint various highlights in black (or other) as needed. With the green on the outside, and the silver on the inside, as the green wears off (and it will!!) a bare metal finish look will slowly (or quickly) appear! REAL weathering!!
Due to the scale of the truck (1/10 monster truck) neither the Halo 1/2 figures or the Halo 3 figures are a good fit, but the H3 figs are darn close!. See below pics.
At some point, I will also try creating the front tow hooks, winch (non-operational), and several headlights. I may even create a turret (for photo-shoots only).
I have upgraded my Traxxas E-Maxx 2.5 with a brushless motor kit: Novak HV-Maxx. Even with just the standard 2 6-cell packs, it is much faster than stock. I won't go into all the other upgrades, unless someone is interested.
