Last year for Secret Santa I was matched with making a prop for OFiveTwo!
The brief that I received was:
I knew that making something like this would allow me to play around with some fun paints. After thinking about it for a little bit I decided to go with making a Brute Plasma Rifle.
Inspiration:
I went looking for some good file to print one and landed on the files from Titlewave Designs on Etsy. After I had these I was able to get it printed fairly quickly.
After it was printed I very slowly worked on getting it sanded and prepared for paint. I admittedly did not dedicate enough time to this project and fell way behind for actually being able to get this out for the Secret Santa Exchange.
(At the time of the exchange it was fully sanded and primed black)
Once the weather started to get nicer again (and I knew I would see OFiveTwo at AdeptiCon) I knew I had to bring it to him in person.
After a final wet sand with 400 grit and a light coat of flat black I was ready to begin the color on this.
I used a mix of Vallejo Metal colors (Aluminum and Gunmetal) to get the end color that I wanted for the metallic parts of this prop.
I then had to reverse the masking and put down a red base coat
The next color on this was Turbo Dork Red Rum - This gave a nice metallic to the red (though not as much as I had initially hoped for)
After that was done I hand painted some plasma color into the vents for a little fun.
Finally, the entire prop was give a high gloss.
Yesterday at C2E2 OFiveTwo was on the con floor holding this and I was very happy to see it in the wild!
