Building My First (405th) Spartan Armor!

I've made at least two full suits in the past with one being a Mk. V Reach build which I was particularly happy with. I'll be going with the same armor base for this official build. The screencap from Infinite is pretty close to how I'm wanting the finished product to look. As has happened in the past, I tend to change ideas half way through production. But I shall update this post and post more pictures as I get started. This will predominately be a foam build, save for the visor and potentially the helmet. Right now, the only thing stopping me is the materials, but we're going to solve that shortly.

Hey! It seems that I was gone away for quite some time, but I have been quiet mostly because I've been hard at work allocating resources and making a lot of different swap-ups.

For starters, I took a step back and reassessed what colors I wanted for the armor, via Vanity. I'm looking at something more like this color scheme, but instead of the lavender/purple, I want to go with that sort of shade that the Tempest Lilac scheme from Infinite features, as well as the orange accents in said scheme.

As can be seen, I also swapped up the shoulder armor. Fun fact, I had to go diving into different 3D print files to find anything remotely like the Security shoulder armor seen here. Huge thanks to MoeSizzlac for providing great 3D print files. You are indeed a life saver.

That being said, we come to my next change. The original plan was to 3D print only the helmet and use foam for the rest of the armor, but... "the missions change, they always do." -- John Halo. I have been printing a majority of my armor and resided that I would only use foam for the chest armor. But then I finished and realized it wasn't quite what I wanted (pictured below). It's not that I'm not proud of it, but I have since found files that I'm using that not only incorporate greater detail, but are easier to get in and out of, as well as work with a silicone undersuit (a la Instinct Creative).

Now, for some progress pics. The ODST helmet is obviously an H3 helmet, but it appears close to the Reach design. Know how I am, I may swap up if I find a good Reach ODST stl. Pictured below is the after gluing the pieces together (cannot recommend PLA Gloop enough!) and the initial coat of pimer and bondo. It's easy to see that I learned a valuable lesson in diluting the bondo with more acetone. However, the few small "slivers" that have remained after sanding and subsequent coats of primer have given some interesting "scrapes" that can be brought out during weathering.

Finally, we have what has been printed thus far. The only thing missing from the pic below is the little "shoulder supports" from the bicep armor. I'm currently working on printing a helmet attachment and will move on to the belt/cod piece and chest respectively. I may make more frequent posts in the future or they may continue to be major update dumps such as this one. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing y'all in the next one!

Genuinely makes me happy to see someone else actually making the chest armour from foam like i did. Was fun to do! I also made my boots, belt and thigh armour from fam and the rest 3D printed. Tbf the bicep armour didnt need straps for me, just some thick low density foam and it held in place. I also used Moe Sizzlac and posted a remake for the bicep armours which adds a gap for you to attach elastic or fabric to the inner part where it hits the torso which gives metter movement flexability. Ill say with the kneeguards, i printed a hinge that works straight off the bed and i glued it to the top of the calf armour and then to the knee guard with some straps around the knee guard so it moves with your leg joints. Make sure to use primer as a base coat too. otherwise paint will come off if not careful.
