1st Build Clovers First ODST

I know most people say not to start with the helmet, but that’s what I’m doing so I can get it out of the way. Had to slice it up into quarters, but it should be done next week.

So my university just opened a new innovation hub with FIVE New bamboo labs X1E printers, (the brand new huge ones) that print so fast it’s not even funny. The amount of cosplay work I’m about to get done is insane

People say not to start with the helmet? That's always my first project so I can set my standard for the rest of the build. Plus they look the best on display.

Some folks suggest against it, but I personally suggest it. It's the thing you'll want to put the most effort into so it's logical, in my eyes at least, to start with it.

Yea, I do helmet first, then gun. For me, getting those done is generally the fastest, and super motivating to get the rest of it.

I promise I didn’t forget about this project, as a nursing student sometimes you just get busy. I finally started printing the helmet today, 1 quarter is down with 3 left, and I already have the visor taken care of. Got it in a nice chrome finish, and while I’ve been too busy to deal with a large project like the odst, I did do some smaller prints in the meantime like another magnum and some starwars props to hang up on my wall. Helmet should be all glued together by the end of the month, with the rest of the armor soon to follow. Updates coming!

First attempt at printing the helmet was just a tiny bit too small, will reprint later this week and show results.

I think I disagree with this take personally. I saw someone else say something similar, but starting with the helmet gives you 1: A fast win at the start of your project which sets a great pace for morale. But also 2: You get to display the helmet and have it watch over and encourage you as you finish your cosplay. I personally finished my helmet first and it was 100% for the best for me personally.

HOWEVER this is also a double edged sword as you will learn more as you do more armor pieces, meaning your paint and assembly techniques will be better and you'll have a better looking final result if you do the helmet last. This is only really applicable to those who are still figuring out their style for painting and such.

I think as long as you have fun and do things at your own pace you'll end up on top!
