Awe... dude! You took my idea! Lol, oh well, I guess there can be more than one ODST spartan... =P

Hey man I don't mind if there are more than one runnin around. I think it's like the best of both worlds because you get to have all the cool ODST stuff plus all the cool Spartan 3 stuff. If you live close to me we should roll into a con together and tear it up...lol

And thank you everyone again for the positive feedback. I'm headin out to the shed after I type this for another round of resin and bondo. Updates soon to follow...cheers 405th

Considering it was my first try with making rondo I think it went well. Its giving off heat so I hope that means it will cure right. Not a major update but if I like the results then it should not take me long to harden up the other pieces this way. I know there are some bends in some of my edges but for the sake of making progress I'm willing to overlook those kinds of defects. On the next set of armor I make I won't be as forgiving with myself but for now...ehh.

@ J450: Yes it is paper.

One more quick thing before I go to bed tonight. After adding up the receipts I have accrued so far. I am up to 175.94 dollars spent in materials. Just in case anyone is wondering how much a project like this can cost. I'll post another total after I completely finish. Thought it might help put some perspective on what goes into these projects for some of the newer members, myself included.

Well until the next update...stay classy 405th.

Thank you for the compliment CaPTaiN MO.

Later this after noon I plan in trying out the mud technique I read about last night. I can't believe I missed that tut! I'm gonna give it test on the helm and see how it turns out. So stay tuned either tonight or tommorow for some more progress pics...

For now I'm off to watch Tron baby...peace 405th.

Thank you for the offer MikyVengeance. I will definitely take you up on it when I have questions it's nice to have someone reach out and I want you to know that I truly appreciate it. As far as the work goes, yeah every time I look at my pieces I'm like jeez I got a loooong way to go. Lol. No progress this weekend at all thanks to Tron Legacy...saw it both days. Once Imax and once regular 3d. I'm gonna do some work on the handplates tommorow after work so...check back soon. :cool Thats me in my 3d glasses :p

Ok finally got some substantial progress.

So I took my first crack at using the mud technique on the top of my helm and I must say it was a learning experience for sure! I think I used way to big a batch to start with and I think I should have spent more time with the dam building. Anywho, it came out much smoother than regular bondo and so with some practice I'm sure I'll get better.

Also got the bottom halve of one shoulder glassed. And...

I put some primer on the top halve and the hand plates after a light sanding.

All in all I'd say it was a pretty productive day for me and I'm looking forward to using some of the spray paint I got soon on some of this stuff!
Stay classy 405th.

Looking very good so far. Interesting technique with the helmet, but it's looking great. :)

And the groove in the blade that Toacrabman was talking about, it is called a fuller. Contrary to many beliefs, it is not to let blood flow, it is to reduce the weight of the overall blade without compromising the structural integrity of the blade. They were mainly used long ago in swords. Blades don't need a groove to let blood flow. :D

I put one in mine to get it close to the actual Reach knife.

Anyway, keep it up. :)

Thanks for the positive feedback. And also thanks for clarifying the deal with the blade groove. I kinda thought it sounded funny for what he described.
Anyways, thanks again, and yes I will definitely keep it up. :$

Just to clarify with the Mud technique, are you just pouring it on? and letting it smooth out? or are you spreading it around?

WOW! man it looks like it is coming along great, seems like a lot of progress to me since i last posted on this thread, keep up the good work :)

Standby for a long post.

I am using some masking tape to build a dam wall as best I can. Then I pour it on and try to just let it run and smooth itself out. However if I'm having a difficult spot I've found that using a paintbrush to push it around helps. I'll tell you one thing, it sure makes it a hell of a lot easier to sand and get smooth. Try it!

Thanks for the compliment. Sometimes I feel like I'm not getting enough done and you've just made my day. :$

And now I've got a little more progress. Stand by...

I did my best to set it on my shoulder for some reference. And finally...

A picture of the bolt I used to hinge it. I don't think it'll come apart anytime soon. And so ends another day with many more to go. Thank you everyone for all your encouragement. Stay classy 405th...
