Grenadier Spartan III

Painted some parts and did more tape pulls yesterday. The knife lost some paint while trying to get it to fit back in the sheith, but thats fine since that makes a more natural weathering.

I also cleaned up the tacpad a bit and got the screws fitted in.

More tape peals!

I also did a little magnet test for a shoulder piece. It stays on but not as well as I'd want it. It falls off easily if twisted or bounced with enough force.

Also another partial suit up selfie since I am very excited at how this is going!

After messing around with the shoulder and magnet for a bit I noticed that while the tensile strength of the magnets was good, the shear and torsion was a little too weak. To add a bit more resistance in those directions I quickly designed and printed this piece that I call the GSAP (Grenadier Shoulder Attachment Point)

Just hot glued the GSAP on at first to test if my idea would even work.

Once the glue was dried I did a movement test. I feel like it definitely helps and I can see myself casually walking around a con all day with this now.

I think I'm working on painting the same knife right now to get me back in the swing of making things, I think you could do some weathering on it to make it a feature not an accident!

Absolutely! I've been sanding it down a bit because all the layers of paint made it a tight fit. That's been revealing some of my orange pla so I might trying making it look like hunters blood is stained on there

That's a really cool idea! What colors were you thinking of doing? I'm going a bit flashy on my paint job so I'm dreading weathering it. My fiancé usually weathers my gear so I hope I don't mess it up too much!

I'm doing the Reach brick and gold colors, which are already mostly painted on my armor. Still need to make the boots and weather everything outside the helmet. I chose the colors to be slightly more vibrant than in game to account for weathering. That's why right now it looks kinda like a hotdog or McDonald's sponsorship lol but it will look a bit closer to in game after weathering

It's definitely a good color combo, I can't wait to see it finished.

Got some new magnets in. These already feel a but stronger than the ones on the grenadier shoulder, so I might redo that after the commando. But for now I wanted to get my chest piece together.

I used a trick I learned from MDBDesigns where I attached the magnets to one side, place clear wrap on top of it, place the other magnet on top, then adhered the 2nd magnet to the other side. That way i can get the magnets lined up and adhered to their respective armor pieces but not each other.

That's a great idea for the magnets! The suit is looking great too!

Finally getting around to documenting my first full armor build, a grenadier spartan III, my custom character from Reach. I already made the helmet and gloves a couple years ago and now I plan on 3D printing the rest of the armor.

The only part i'm missing right now is the collar/breacher chest piece attachment. The rest of the armor pieces were made by MoeSizzlac View attachment 290505

Here's the helmet I made with pepakura
