Nice work, i am going to have to to the lower torso, I scaled it incorrectly. But other than that i have finished the sholders, right leg ( i am only making one because I am going to mold it). i am going to start on the helmet tommorow. Oh and also I am gonna order my Sigma CQB helmet, Yeah!

####CORRECTION####

I made a mistake in my earlier post when said the ODST Halo 2 helmet was 39 cm when it is 29 cm. So for someone who is a member of the "Mark VI Big Head Crew" keep that in mind.

####CORRECTION####

kerotan 36 - Glad to see things coming along for you. I'm thinking that the 'Upper Torso' needs some shoulder and neck padding. Basically, make a pillow using some poly/cotton blend of black fabric or nylon if you can get it. This will be used for pading on the shoulders/upper chest and as a neck roll. That is my idea. Kind of like this armor here Look under the gold armor and see the black padding. I know this is more work on top of fiber glassing and everything else, but wearing this stuff at a con for more than an hour and you will wish you put some padding underneath the chest armor.

Also, how are you detailing the leg armor? Resin and fiberglass first then some cardboard as detail?

Just in case the eBay link doesn't work this is what I am talking about.

I just started fiberglassing/resining the Right leg I am about 4/6 done with it. I plan on Bondoing it tomorrow. The leg is kind of my tester to see if I am any good at fiberglassing/resining, and so far it looks pretty good, so you can expect an ODST at Dragon Con from what I am planing on.

Sounds good! I totally want to see some pictures and soon. As for myself I have some plans in the works. LOL However, this weekend was rainy and nasty so I could NOT fiberglass. I hope to get with 'Vrogy' and 'TheRob' (not to be confused with 'Rob' :D ) and get some friendship and fiberglassing going.

ODST leg. I wanted to give this a try since I am almost finished with the 'ODST Lower Torso'. Yeah to short. So I need to make it 53.3 cm or 21 inches for my leg to make it the right size. I will try again before I get into a fiberglassing frenzy this week.

Yeah my 'lower torso' ended up being to small to. Sadly my leg got warped, curses, I need to remake it but I will resin the sholders tomorrow. Hopefully Bondo aswell. I have plenty of time to remake the legs. Update!: Finished painting a shoolder!

What? these are just pics of the odst helmet I made thanks to Ruze's files. This doesn't advertize any of my posts at all. I'm just showing these to show him the progress he's made in making them.

lol its not even my thread its just 2 pictures of the helmet i made from his file and it's not to advertise anything just to show him thanks and look what i made :)

I am a noob and yesterday i made a sholder as my first project. It came out... ok. it seems i bit small but that could just be me i'm about 5'10" and stil growing. It also turned out a bit flimsy so im gonna try again with some card stock. Thanks for these files they are great.

Awesome job on everything so far, fightstar. Looks very very nice... glad to see everything's workin so far. The knife came out cool, I wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to put that in there but I figured some might prefer putting that together over a scratch-built one...

Helmet looks good, glad the sizing was right :) Was pretty much a guess based on the last one I made, to adjust for my glasses as well.
As for your helm questions:
1) I'd recommend putting the paper visor in, just don't resin it. It'll hold the rest of the helmet in its proper shape, especially that funky bit that's indented under the bill/ brim. It should also hold the jaw in line.
2) I didn't add any special support on the inside when I worked on mine and it came out pretty well, I think the large blocky shapes of the H2 odst hold their shape pretty well without extra struts or anything.
3) I really don't know if a regular moto visor will even work in this helmet, I know there's a good amount of flex in those visors but the shape of the open area is very irregular and squared off... There's more of a bend at the bottom of it than at the top, forming a sort of point...

For mine, I used a sheet of thin plastic, actually this exact one:
GBC Presentation Binding Cover
and silver auto window tint. Applied the tint to the full sheet of plastic first, as it was laying flat. Then I traced the outline of the visor space onto a sheet of blank 8.5 x 11" paper, and then transferred that outline to the plastic (extending the outline by several mm's to ensure fit), cut it out, and hot glued it in place.

The link in my sig has pictures of my finished ODST helm... the tint is still holding up, too, little to no wrinkling or air bubbles.
Whew that was quite a wall of text... hopefully that helped, let me know if you've got any other questions, I'm happy to help.
Keep us posted on the progress, too, I really don't think anyone has finished a full H2 odst suit using pep, and I only recall ever seeing 1 completed suit at all. Excited to see another done...

I read this and think that your idea for the visor is very good. Just a few questions.
1. Where would i get this silver auto window tint?
2. How much would i cost?
3. What is this stuff like is it spray on or brush on or something else?
4. I looked at a few pics of odsts and it seemed to me like the visor was more of a blue. I am not being a critic i am just saying that but i think silver or black would probably look better than the blue.

Silver auto window tint can be found at most every auto parts store - NAPA, Autozone, Pep Boys, VIP... Window tint is usually in the auto accessories section, and most of the stores do carry silver.

In-store tint usually runs from $10-15 per roll. The rolls are large - one roll would get you enough for probably 8 visors. The silver I used was actually part of the gold roll I got, it was silver on the bottom and orange on top.

What is which stuff... tint? Tint is a thin and flimsy sheet of cling, that you apply to glass / plastic using a squeegee and diluted dishsoap. The soap makes it stick better, and the squeegee gets the air bubbles out.

ODSTs do have more of a blue visor, and I had also bought a roll of black tint for the odst, but that helmet was for someone else and I left the choice up to him. He just liked the way silver looked. If I made one for myself I'd probably do blue. Blue window tint is also available, though it isn't as commonly carried in-store as black and silver.

Before anyone starts screaming about Necro'ing - I started this thread, I've updated this thread, and it's still relevant since I'm still getting asked the question I've addressed.

EDIT 11-03-08:
I've updated the shoulder model, since I've recieved numerous PMs and seen it asked many times,
"How does the shoulder work / where do I cut / what do I do????!!!"

There's now just a simple edge around the entire back, with one support piece added.

The first post has been updated as well, and if one of you Wiki editing types could update the shoulder file on the Wiki that would be awesome.
