Halo 3: Odst - Pepakura Armor

Wow! That's a really nice looking helmet. It looks like you use white glue, right? I have about 16oz of white glue and 97 sticks of hot glue, which of the two should I use? And how am I supposed to apply the white glue, because when I made an earlier chest piece there was dried glue thumbprints all over.

Oh, and what did you do for the vents and grooves on the cheek and brow?

One last question, this is the file from the wiki right? Is that stock scale or did you scale it?

Thanks! And yep, I used white Elmer's glue, and I would strongly sugguest using it instead of hot glue. I've made a Pep weapon (from my own file) mostly using hot glue (and a lot of craft sticks on the inside), and I really didn't so much like how it turned out.

Secondly, I would strongly advise you to, instead of directly applying the white glue, squeeze some into something like a water-

color paint tray, etc, and apply lightly with a plastic-bristle paintbrush. Any left-over glue will dry and you can peel it off anything really easily. And be sure to wash the paintbrush right after you use it, it's easier than doing it later.

For the extra detailing, I used the yellow foam material off of an egg carton, cutting out each iece with an X-acto knife. As for scaling, I used the standard scale in Rundown's file, but I would advise you scaling it down maybe 5%. I'm fifteen and its a little large (but not too ridiculous to have to re-pep again)

Hope this helps!

Thanks! I'm fifteen too and since you said it's a little large, should I scale it down 7 or 8%?

And since I don't have a paint tray I think I'll just use a bottlecap.

Nightshade and alecgates15,

I have been using Scotch quick-dry adhesive from 3M. It goes on white but dries clear so I don't get that fingerprint problem. It comes with a precision tip so no mess. I bought one tube from Walmart and I have not run out yet. One tube used well goes a long way and can keep your expenses down and it is easy to remove from your skin. Peals like Elmer's. Hope this helps.

Something brought me around to updating the side plate once again. Don't worry, this one is unfolded and ready to go. Just for anyone who may not have pepped an older version before (I have, but I like these a lot better. The others were pretty weak looking IMO). Here's the download link:

I'll update the original post soon.

Well, looks like the 405th gets a double-scoop today. How's this for a more accurate center chest piece? It really needed to be thicker (and I did several other proportional fixes too ... at least, I think they're fixes. You be the judge)(And yes, it's unfolded)

Hey guys I love the stuff I'm seeing on these last few pages! Great work! I'm sorry that a few of my files are so inaccurate, but I'm glad that there are people who are willing to fix them. Please keep in mind that those were created when very few reference images were available for modeling! Anyway, for my college admission portfolio for two or three schools, I, for one of my portfolio submissions, am basically using my ODST armor models, and I created a composition putting them all together over the released Bungie renders:

odstarmorcomposition.png

(Some areas including the thigh "scales", chest packs, etc, are part of my models but sort of blend into the background)

But here's what my mom asked me to do. I DARE (no pun intended) someone to make thier armor like this:

pinkarmorfront.png

pinkarmorback.png

Like it?

PS - I might soon make a pouch (like King Cobras') that will seamlessly fit into the side indentations on the HD thigh model and could be attached/removed with some nice magnets, and that's always cool.

AND MERRY CHRISTMAS!

dude thats just wrong!!!..........what kind of ODST would wear a pink with hearts on it?!?!?!?

Hey DreadMullet, great grenade! I'm glad to finally see one of those in the thread (well, aside from Th3FETTMAN's one he posted waaaaay back). Also, thanks for the unfold, Flyerfye!

Well, I wanted my pep grenades to have a few less tabs, so I editted the model just for my personal use (cause it's not really my file, so I won't release it without permission). It's just the grenade without the barely-visible indenteed ring near the bottom, and the handle is just flat so that I can use it as a template and use scratch-materials to make it, so I don't need to pep that difficult part. Also, just a bit of the geometry is more symmetrical on both sides. Again, not saying that was a bad model in any way, just wanted to show you my own little version:

odstgrenadepep.png

hey dude is this a grenade? can you send me the pep files for this because i want to use it a ammo for my HVMR-300!!

The centre equipment plate is still very small in comparison with alot of the other pieces on the odst suit. If you redid it, im sure you would be fine, plus, you would'nt be wasting much fiberglass or bondo on it, if you did decide to redo it that is. :)

can anyone recommend a chest plate file to use for ODST? i have the majority of the files for ODST and would just like to get a recommended one before i waste my last pages of card stock on one that is scaled funny.

Yes actually, I would say that you should use kirrou's chestplate, it is the most high detailed and accurate one I have seen to the game version yet. :)

Kirrou's chest plate is a great file, especially if you want a noticeably thicker chest plate. In case you wish yours to be thinner, I'd suggest the Nightshade/Nobody collab file (which you can get from THIS link. It's the most accurate out of all my inaccurate files: http://www.4shared.com/file/174012001/dd7a48f4/ODST_Chestplate_Nightshade_Nob.html)

Hope this helps!

Nice chestplate nightshade! One thing I noticed though, was that the sides sortta span out a little to far. :)

I would.

That would be hilarious to wear to a convention.

Especially since im 6'3.

A giant odst, in pink armor would be HILARIOUS!!

It was really Nobody who made the changes from my older version (with smaller "wings") to the one you just saw, so I suppose that was his mistake.
