This is a Dreamscene that I created for windows Vista that shows the splash loading screen and cycles the several "emotions" of the "Superintendent" AI from Halo 3: ODST.

I got the loading screen from the ODST teaser trailer, and the the other images from Bungie's site.

Just imagine this video as your desktop background.

Get yours here!!!

P.S. - As far as applying it, if you have any questions feel free to ask, but I have my resolution at 1280x800 and I have it set to crop to fit the screen and it looks fairly nice and doesn't chop anything off.

Installation:

Well, first you have to download Windows Dreamscenes which is one of the Ultimate Extras that come with Windows Vista Ultimate, or you can download VLC Media Player (free, open-source, works with any Windows Version) here.

For windows Dreamscene reboot your computer after installation and then open up the Desktop Background window and browse to the video, or for VLC users play the video then right-click and select set as wallpaper. (Can someone please confirm this for VLC users)

Pretty sweet. Now the real question is, how do I make it a desktop background ...

but i dont recommend a gif as background for windows... your system will run very slow!

I can imagine the sound getting annoying after a while.

It actually doesn't play the sound if you use windows dreamscenes, idk about VLC though...

Can you do it for 1600 x 900? haha :D

EDIT: Also do you have a version without audio?

EDIT2: I can't get it to work with VLC.

1200 x 800. Pretty standard resolution, but VLC makes the vid look terrible. May I suggest saving it as a DivX movie with vector files as images. Would display quite nicely.

The Vlc thing dosent work

when u right click on the video screen it dose not have a "set as background" option

I believe they meant for you to just play the file using VLC, perhaps full screen, and not try to set it as an

actual background.

In order to do that you need to be running Vista, and have the additional items (listed in the posts above)

installed for it to work.

This looks really cool, but I suggest adding more Static interruption during the "Mood changes" It would keep it looking more like the beginning.

And can this only be done on Vista?

This is great. A no sound HD version would be better for a wallpaper.

I did get VLC to work. YMMV

Tools -> Preferences -> Video -> Output Modules -> DirectX -> Enabled Wallpaper Mode

Tools -> Preferences -> Video -> Output Modules -> "DirectX" Not DirectX3D

Open the command line by typing 'cmd' into the windows run box then right click in the window, click paste. Hit enter and wait a moment.

Code:
start /MIN c:/progra~1/videolanvlc/vlc.exe --intf wx --wx-embed --directx-wallpaper %1

View -> Playlist -> Click Loop Icon

Lastly, double click the tray icon to hide the main window.

WooT!@

Edit: Darn, I couldn't get it working a second time.

I enjoy it, for the most part. But definitively need 1920x1080 resolution. The pixel blocks burn my eyes. But very cool concept, like seeing it flash in my background.

Ah, I stand corrected. I've never used VLC for anything other than watching videos.

I guess you lean something new every day! :)

How badly does it bog down your system when running in the background?

Oh sir, I've got it running on that dreamscape on windows 7 retail. I was in Photoshop, cinema 4d, and autocad with gremlins playing in the background all without a slightest nudge on performance.

Waah! Stop showing off! :(

This looks pretty cool. I'd use it, but I'm really fond of my current background.

Gotta love the Super.
