Halo 4 Hayabusa Concept Armor

Its too bad that this wasnt put in the game or you couldnt get any more concept art. Even though I dont like Halo 4's armor very mush this is pretty cool. Dont give up on it!

Your doing a really great job with the modeling for the torso, I wouldn't stress to much over not having all the details in the model, its actually easier to add a lot of the details into the part while your doing the body work on the actual piece, from what I see that you have done so far it looks easy to work with, as long as the shape is correct then the details can all be added to finish it off, keep up the great job, when your finished with the torso I will give it a shot and build it if you don't mind, I really don't have any builds going on at the moment so it would give me something to do ;)

I've tried to get it as close to the images as possible so it will be pretty close. Personally, I would just add the small details in during the body work as you said, but I know there are people out there terrified of the whole bondo scene haha. I'll let you know when I get the chest finished.

amazing job man cant wait to see the building part

Thanks, hopefully I will start a build on this around the winter holidays where I'll have four weeks of nothing to do haha.

Looks good, what program are you using other then the pepakura designer?

I use 3DS Max 2014 to model it in. I pulled it into pep designer because it was easier to see the model as a whole. I like to export the .OBJ at various times and bring it into pep designer to see how it looks in there.

The Halo 3 armor permutations were nice because they were simple (Helmet, Chest, or Shoulders). When Reach came out they tried to make the Spartans more customizable and then Halo 4 tripled the customization. I like the fact that you can create a very personal Spartan with the plethora of permutations. I'm torn though because I loved the simplicity of Halo 3, yet I love the expansiveness to Halo 4.

Almost there!!!

Nearly completed the chest tonight, then I realized it was almost 4 in the morning haha.

Here are some screenshots of the 95% completed chest.

All that is left is the little shoulder piece. The thrusters gave me quite a hard time, a lot, and I mean a LOT, of guess work went into the thrusters, but I managed to pull them off okay, at least I think they came out okay haha.

That's all for tonight, hopefully this will finally be done by tomorrow :D

Chest is complete!!!!

So after many hours of modeling, I have finally come to a final model. I think it turned out pretty good with the lack of reference photos.

I still need to fix some small things like where the multiple objects connect (shoulders to thrusters/ shoulders to front plate/ thrusters to back plate/ and the little bulges in the thrusters), but it's good for now.

The .pdo will take some time to get up because of the unfolding process, plus I'll be putting all my time into modeling the helmet which I will try to start tonight.

I'll keep everyone updated on my progress.

That looks pretty solid indeed, I'm impressed.

Just a note, though - you may want to find a way to clean up those red lines on the backplate - those are open edges, and Pepakura won't add a tab to them. If you were using Blender I could happily instruct you on how to do so.

Thanks for pointing that out, I just noticed them. Something went a little wonky during the symmetry modifier where the lines at the center were a little crooked, but after fixing that, the red lines are no more.

Fixed:

Update time!

I tweaked the chest just a little and fixed the small things that I wanted to fix. Now the chest is done and ready to be unfolded.

I got around to modeling the helmet tonight and started on the chin portion. Here is what I have after about fifteen minutes:

Tomorrow (well today but after I wake up haha) I have nothing to do and have dedicated the day to modeling the helmet. I'm hoping to get a good chunk done tomorrow and have some awesome update pictures for everyone.

That concludes tonight's quick update, now I must engage sleep mode!

Tonight's Update:

Hey everyone! Got a good bit of the helmet done today. If I continue at the rate I am going, I may just have the helmet done this weekend.

Here are some pictures of where the helmet stands now:

I think it's looking pretty good so far. I'll be posting some more progress pictures tomorrow.

Feedback is highly welcomed :)

That's looking mighty good - though, if you have the chance to, I'd model that around a head so you can be sure it fits. If you could post screens of it in your modelling program that would be awesome - Pepakura tends to have perspective issues.

I agree its looking awesome so far ;)

Thanks guys :)

I downloaded a free head model that I'll use to ensure that it fits properly. I also noticed the perspective issue in pepakura, it seems that it wants to force a three point perspective to the piece instead of an orthographic view. I'll get some screenshots from 3ds next update.

Here are some with the model head:

I'll have to widen the helmet a little bit because, as you can see in the screenshots, the head looks a little small in proportion to the helmet (At least to me it looks a little small, any thoughts from you guys?) but barely fits with the width. So after widening it and scaling the head up to a more proportionate size, I think we'll be set. Other than that, the depth looks pretty good so far.

The width seems absolutely fine now that I see it in its native orthographic format as opposed to a perspective view. As long as there's no clipping you should be fine, although if you want, I can send you along the original Halo 3 Hayabusa game-rip for you to reference against, just to be sure.

I've hit the half way mark for the helmet!!!

Here is a front view:

I'll have more for you guys in a few hours with an update on how the back half is coming along.

This is awesome, and why couldn't they put this in the game??? (Ik why I'm jus sayin that it sucks that it isnt)

After spending six and a half straight hours of modeling, I have finished the helmet!

I LOVE my Halo 3 Hayabusa armor and was sad that there wasn't any in H4. Also, I DO NOT like the armor in Halo 4. I have already decided NOT to make any H4 armor, however, being a fan of the 'busa, this is something I might take into consideration for a build. :p

Also, I would like to unfold these files for you. I am VERY good at unfolding files. ;)
