Now for an update:

I have basically completed the chin area (minus a few bits)





PS: The clear plastic pieces are cut bits from a hot glue stick.
For the foam version I will use plastic / metal for them

Its UPDATE Time:

I have begun to work on the sides of the helmet.
It may not look like it but these pieces look about 3-4hrs to make.....



I have learnt that the overall size of the helmet looks to be about 30% larger (basically it would be a large bobble head)
The way I plan to adjust the size for the foam version is to upload my finalised templates and reprint them at a reduced size.

Anyway here's I more pic for now.

I am just starting out with foam and I really like the card board idea. T tried drawing all my templates with paper but it was hard to put together. This is looking awesome! I can't wait to see the transition to foam!

To be honest I feel it is turning out better than I hoped.

I have been having a little difficulty with the cardboard lack of bending but I think so far it is going well.
This cardboard one is teaching me what to adjust for the foam one to be easier to build while keeping the detail.

My plan right from the very beginning of this build was to share my foam templates
Once this cardboard version is complete, I am going to finalise my templates for foam and build the foam one.
If the templates work as planned my final step will be to upload them for you all to use (if you like / feel that it is good enough)

Small update:

I have worked a little bit more on the helmet tonight during my destiny beta download.
It is slow progress but every little piece brings me that one step closer...

The top my look a little strange for now, but do not fear it will look better once the rest of the top is done

UPDATE TIME:

I can start to see the end of this stage finally
I have a few pictures to show you all.
Today I managed to complete the top of the helmet and begin on the back detail.
The top bit may be a tiny bit too large, but I am hoping that once I finish the bulky sides / back it will look correct in size.
If not I can easily modify it when I work on the foam version...

Cut out the largest single piece ever today...


Also marked out the visor to make it a bit easier to see.









In my next update this stage should be complete

I feel that this has turned out better than I thought it would.

BIG UPDATE TODAY!!!

STAGE 2 (aka Cardboard Prototype Helmet) is now COMPLETE.

Incoming photo package...











If you feel that there is an issue with the helmet I welcome the criticisms / tips.
I would like to get my final version as accurate as possible.
Stage 3 is adjusting my templates to reuse for my foam / final version, so if I can learn of problems at this stage, I can easily fix them.

The two main issues I already know I need to fix are:

The top of the helmet needs to be lowered ALOT.
The overall size of the helmet needs to be reduced in size by about 30%.
