Hi everyone,
I haven't shown you guys any of my new projects that I have been working on because...well... I've been working on them. I don't know why but i don't like to show you guys stuff that isn't finished, I kinda have a peeve about it. But anyway, I have been working on a custom Halo:Reach armor suit. Here is what it should look like
kannib10.jpg

Yup, so here it is, even with the black visor. I was planning on finishing the helmet, cutting out the visor with a rotarary tool, then vacuum forming the visor, cutting it out, then putting on a spray "paint" tint on the visor. I believe the tint is called "Nite-Shades" that is liquid tint in a can. I found this idea from The Bradinator's YouTube video when they make their visor for their pilot helmet. So if you run into them, tell them kudos. And for the Security shoulder (Emile's) I was going to make the shoulder, but make a separate knife so I can take it out and hold it.The left shoulder is supposed to be the sniper shoulder, but somehow that got screwed up, but everything is correct. For right now, the pilot helmet is complete in the pepakura stage and I'm thinking of resining and fiber glassing it today, then putting maybe an extra coat on the outside. For some weird reason, my computer is letting me upload the pics, but when i click on the pic, it says "no preview available" idk how to fix this but i might upload the pics to Facebook then save them onto my computer that way. I dowloaded the Photobucket app for my iPod and it wouldn't let me sign into facebook, which is where I have all of my pictures at. If you now how to fix these problems, or you just want to be updated for this armor build, just stay tuned, I will probably upload the pics today,so if you are not seeing them now, they'll be here later on today.

I've got the pilot helmet done so far. I've got pics, but my computer is acting up with it. I'll post them maybe today or 2morrow. I still need to print everything else out and I'm going to do the initial body piece out of EVA foam, because that looks a lot simpler than pepping it. But pepping it is my last resort if the EVA foam thing dosen't work out so well.

EVA Foam:

i notice alot of ppl make suit with the foam route, i think maybe my second suit ill go with the foam body but for now im just pepping and glassing.
im sure it looks really great
im curious to try out that vacuum forming style the first time i watch a video on it was for a pilot helmet and it was pretty freakin neat

keep up the good work cant wait to see what it looks like

oh
color scheme??? like the one in the pic huh??

Yeah, foam's been hot now a days, and the vacuum forming sounds fun. I was thinking of all black or blue as a primary and black as a secondary

Hey, good luck with this build! I love the armor you chose. I like the vacuumforming, thermoforming, idea. I actually am almost done with my home made vacuumform, but I don't know how easy it is to find clear plastic. I thought of using Smooth-On Crystal Clear to cast an irregular shaped visor, but I think the fumes might be dangerous? There is a really awesome thread by Redshirt about making see-through reflective visors here:

I can't wait to see your progress on this build!

For all of you guys who were interested in seeing pics of my progress, here they are. The only thing I have done was the pilot helmet so far.

A comparison from my first helmet, which was too small!

I'll be working on my other pieces tomorrow. I need somebody who has done EVA foam chest pieces to tell me how they got their pieces that they traced and cut, then glued together to make the chest. THIS would be GREATLY appreciated, by me and other people who are having the same problem/ situation. I'll probably post more pics of my armor tomorrow K bye! :D

Resin is complete

Last night I finished the resin with my dad on the helmet. We really had to work against the clock to finish the resin process, but our batch hardened on us when we finished 50% of the helmet. Then my dad made a new batch and we were able to finish the helmet JUST before the resin got all (gummy bear like). Talk about perfect timing! i am probably going to glass the inside but I'm debating about it because I live in Pennsylvania, and there is a massive heat wave that is occurring now and I went outside to see how the weather was and it was EXTREMELY humid outside. Unless the humidity lowers, I'm not going to do it. But I'm going to do it tomorrow because I'm a little behind schedule on this project, and I'm planning on wearing it to the Midnight Release @ the King of Prussia Mall that night. So if you are going to the release at King of Prussia, let me know so we can go in together. (no homo) Here are some pics of the resin-dried helmet, it doesn't look different in the pictures, but it's got a little of green coloring to it.

When every thing dried, I could put the helmet on without ease, and I didn't even use support struts!

MONDAY UPDATE 7/16/12
Hey everyone, I know you're saying," Why is he posting his Monday updates on his armor thread?" Well, it's because 1. I'm too lazy on starting a whole new thread on an update that is very short and to the point from a weeks time 2. I'm trying to cut back on the thread posts that I do 3. Posting it on here gives me 2 advantages (1.) It keeps you guys informed on what I do in a weeks span when I'm Not talking to you on 405th.com (2.) It shows you guys my armor project and the progress I am making, and it shows my project to people who haven't yet seen it and MIGHT get people inspired to make a Halo:Reach project if it they haven't yet done so. Anyways, moving onto the update part of this post: In the past week I resined my helmet and moved onto the movable knife on the security shoulder, I just resined the holder for the knife and I'm going to resin the knife maybe tonight. I have just printed everything else that I need to pep in this project except the chest piece and the boots. The reason why I didn't print these out yet is because I am going to use EVA foam on the 3 pieces, I figured EVA foam can take more damage on the floor from the boots than paper (my opinion doesn't matter. but it's my belief on what will work better). And the chest piece may seem like a lot more time consuming than pepping it. I plan on working on the other pieces tomorrow (Tuesday) because that is when my mom comes home from work to give me the copied pieces of paper. I am thinking about using EMPTY shotgun shells that my dad used when he hunts (OH YEAH) and using them for the wrist piece that I am doing, also my dad coincidentally has "Great Stuff" foam in the garage that i am just going to fill up the shells with. Also the grenade cylinders on the chest piece is probably going to be PVC pipe that I'll just fill in with "Great Stuff" or something like that. The other grenade things around the COD piece and the two "inside the chest" I'll probably make out of insulation foam (like my weapons) or just pep them. If anyonw has any tips on what I should do differently or less costly, let me know, I'm all about new ideas. Bye

Wow. Great progress, mate! Looking fantastic already. Can't wait to see how it turns out!

Since I'm doing a foam build, I'll be following this thread's progress very closely...

Also, I'd recommend putting something other than EVA foam in the boots if you plan on walking around in it. I'd probably recommend trying to make some kind of crude sole for the boot. Just my opinion, though.

Yeah, that was what I meant to say about the boots, but idk, I need to find something durable, hard, but a little flexible. Or I could use very thin plywood and do the boots into sections. Ya now what I mean?
