Thanks for the generous offer! It would really help. Someone else has been trying to get some foam to me, but something else always seems to happen and he can't get here. XD If you don't mind doing that, I would greatly accept. :)

Anyway, on to other matters.............we are still have money issues.............lost our car (impound), and recently had to pay out a lot of money to get our power turned back on. The cold months are a VERY bad time for us. Stuff always goes wrong and nothing but bad luck comes our way. It really sucks.

With that said, I won't be attending any conventions this year. Probably will have to wait until May to go to the Motor City Comic Con, IF we can even afford to go to that. :\

Since we recently attended a wedding, my husband liked how it was set up and wanted to redo ours next year, so I started to get together a budget game plan to see how much money we could save to do it...........we spend MORE in bills a month than we even make a month! WOW! Turns out, we kind of can't even afford to live! D:

Yup! Double post! XD haha
There is a good reason for that though too. :p

A SUPER NICE person (who's name doesn't need to be mentioned because they know who they are) :) has sent me a gift card to purchase the remaining supplies needed to finish my Kat costume!!!! :D

So, once that gets here, I will have to wait til I get a chance to go to the store, buy my stuff and get to work. Once that all takes place, expect to start seeing updates! :)

I REALLY hope Calladar posts those templates or whatever it was for the boots because those will complete the costume. However, the prosthetic arm needs to be re-worked since the part that wraps around my bicep wasn't holding up too good since I used scrap pieces of foam to put it together and it didn't hold up too well because of the shape. I will need to get my hands on some thick metal that can hold up to some weight (at least 2lbs) because I will need to be able to support the shoulder piece better so it doesn't flop around. XD

I am hoping to at least have it done by Halo-ween, but I won't have anywhere to go. I'll be all dressed up and nowhere to go. :( *sigh* Oh well. :\

If you get trick-or-treaters, you could always dress up and hand out candy. I am sure kids would get a kick out of a Spartan answering the door.

Well, the gift card from a special person has arrived so I am hoping to go this weekend and buy the rest of the stuff I need to finish my costume. I am looking at having to get more foam, paint and a visor. Hopefully that SHOULD be all the stuff I need to finish it. I had stocked up on hot glue when I started the project, so I should still have enough hot glue to glue it all together.

And I will also get a chance to test out the hot knife. My husband bought a soldering iron that came with interchangable tips since he broke my soldering iron and I was pretty mad at him since I needed it for my armor. :( He then went out and bought once since he started to dabble with circuit boards, but also because he owed me one after breaking the one my dad gave me.

So hopefully I will start to post some updates soon! :D

Hey HG,

I've been looking through your entire thread, and been using it as tips/reference for my own Kat build. I was overjoyed to hear that you're hopefully going to finish it in time for Halloween! Great job and I'm looking forward for more pics. :D

I got SOLE baby! lol

Okay, so I mananged to go out and buy me some foam to get started on my boots. Now I did NOT use the pepakura model and print out the template to use as foam. Instead, I worked off the shoe that I plan on wearing and drew out my own templates by using reference pictures to create the shape.

I'm just making it up as I go along so I don't know how this is gonna turn out when finished, but it seems to be looking good so far. :)

My shoe is in there pretty good and I like the idea of using foam as the sole of the shoe since those shoes got pretty worn out on the bottom due to wearing them for work that I so DID NOT want to do since those were my favorite comfy pair of VANS shoes, but at the time, they were my only black pair of shoes and we have to wear black shoes. I will be working on it some more and if this one turns out good, then I can just use the templates I created to make the right boot! :D

When I do go and make that right boot, I will take pictures as I go along that will then be added to a foam building tutorial and it will give people an idea how to work with the foam.

yay scratch built foam shoes! Is hot glue going to be able to hold up for the sole?

Well for being completely scratch built, from reference only, the boots look really good!! Every time I look at this build, I'm blown away.

UGH! Well I finished the boot and once I placed the shin on top of it to see how it looked, the boot is HUGE!!! It looks horrible! :( Good thing I didn't make both! D:

Well, back tot he drawing board. :\ That shoe that I was wanting to use is already pretty big and once I put the foam around it, it made it even bigger. Looks like I may even have to find a different pair of shoes. :\

Hereis a picture.........

See what I mean about how big the boot is!? D: It looks ridiculous! XD

It doesn't look too bad in reference to size, but if you're going to redo it, what if you made the boot without a shoe inside. You're using a piece of foam for the sole anyway. It's just a thought, and it is something I thought about doing as well.

A shoe of some sort would add stability and support that the foam by itself would not do.

You could also use some thinner foam around the toe to reduce the over all size of it.

I didnt bother with a shoe because the proportions would just look off as you can tell. in some reference pictures, if you didnt notice, the shoe is very close to flesh with the foot, so i just tried to make a boot completely out of foam to fit best around my foot rather than a shoe. and a shoe will kinda break layers of foam from its unnatural flexibility

I had the same issues with my boots when I first made them. I went with a an old sole whenI remade mine. Another option would be to use a cheap flip-flop. The foam is pretty similar to EVA so they will bond well and there won't be any unnecessary bulk. Everything is looking good though. Keep up the awesome work girl.

Well I have a pair of water shoes (if any of you guys know what those are) XD haha and those are very thin and won't add a lot of bulk to the size of the boot. I already traced around that shoe to start for the sole of the reach boot and it seems a bit better so far. Definitely smaller than the one I made. XD Since I gotta work tonight (actually gotta leave in about 20 minutes at the time of this post), I won't be able to do anymore work on it, but I have monday off so I will begin work on the new boot and see how that works out. I think I might save the large boot and have that for my husbands future costume.

He too has a pair of those water shoes so I can put that in the bigger boot and it should fit good for him. So I guess in a way, I didn't really waste foam, but I am more focused on getting my costume done. XD

That is what inused for mine.. Around here they are called deck shoes.. Traced them and then workednup from there... Work like a champ.

as an aside, if you look at the in game model her feet ARE huge...so your first boot was actually accurate...this is most evident in the cutscene after (spoiler alert) she gets shot. the close up of her shoe as her body's dragged into the bunker you can see how big her foot is compared to her shin.
