Helmet padding

Title says it all. I'm currently trying to figure out a way to get my helmet to stay on my head in place whilst wearing my armor. This is a picture of the inside.

Does anyone have a tutorial on helmet padding? Also maybe a way to figure out how thick you need the padding to be?

Generally when scaling, it's said to leave something like an inch or two for padding. I imagine that's the correct amount, but I would dig around for some kind of tutorial; I would find it hard to believe that there isn't a single one here.

Hey Retrocorn
I use "Scorpion2" motorcycle pads and liners. They are inexpensive, fit great, and can be velcro-ed in so you can take them out and wash them.

If you really don't feel like spending a lot of cash and want custom padding, most fabric stores have big sheets of foam in varying thicknesses. Cut with scissors, attach with method of your choice. (I like Spray Adhesive, it's fairly solid, but you can still take it off pretty easily. Another option is self-stick velcro, and, well, there are plenty of others.)

But if you go this route won't you get all those annoying foam bits separating and going up your nose etc?

actually no... I use that padding for some custom mando helmets i have... like flyerfre said you can find ti at most sewing stores .. and to a degree at craft suplpy stores, and walmart

The stuff they have at fabric stores is pretty mess-free. It's less like packing foam, and more like any other type of padding. It's meant to be used for upholstery and, well, padding stuff. Stays in pretty much one piece unless you're going really crazy with the cutting.

I'm using Pvc pipe insulation to pad my Noble Six helmet. It works really well and it's dirt cheap. You can just cut it in half lengthwise and stick it in with epoxy or something similar. A six foot piece will do a whole helmet easily. can you hot glue foam padding into a helmet? thats what i plan on doing but i wanna make sure before i do it.

Well since you will be wearing it and it will be in use velcro it itsead of glueing it straight on. so when it flattens out, you can change the padding fast and easy.

You could also use military style helmet pads. Get them from airsoft type stores.
