Hey Guys,

I am new to the forums and I have started my first helmet but I have encountered a problem. I am using a low temperature hot glue gun to glue my pieces together but they are starting to come apart. I have re glued and they still come apart. So my question is should I be using more glue, something else to stick them together or what? Thanks in advanced and I hope some of you advanced armor makers could give me some tips.

People use a lot of different glues. The one that I find works best as far as strong hold and very fast is some superglue. As far as your problem goes, I can't really give advise as to why since I've never used hot glue for a pep.

I would use Elmer's white glue (if you're in the US), if you're out side the US, it's a PVA white glue. It's water based, but holds great. Others will disagree with me, but with white glue, you don't run the risk of burning your fingers, you don't get the strings all over the place and if it gets too warm, white glue does not start to melt (which is what I think is happening with you since you're using low temp glue which melts at lower temps).

So do you think using super glue over the dried hot glue will work fine or should I redo those parts?

You could probably heat up the dried glue with the nozzle then wipe it of with your finger. It may take some time but you need to have the tab clean or else it won't bond properly, this coming from experience. I would take the time to either remove the glue or re-print, re-cut, re-score, and re-glue the pieces. Also I use Elmer's Gluestick, it's cheaper and holds well unless you disturb it to much, meaning squeezing, bending, and high amounts of heat like about 95-100 Degrees Fahrenheit.
