Hunter Costume

In my opinion, I think you're trying to tackle something too big for a beginner. There's a reason that a vast majority of the builds you see here are Spartans or ODST suits made if fiberglass from Pepakura models: it just works and there is the most information and content for it. There are tutorials, and build threads full of information about the entire process, not to mention most experienced people are capable of helping.

I'd suggest trying your hand at a Pepakura suit like just about everyone does when they're beginners, and after a while, with improved skills and knowledge of suit making, you could try a Hunter. I don't want to sound too pessimistic, but... K'nex? Not sure that will work. I'd stick to what works at first for the highest chance of success and lowest chance of disappointment, and then start experimenting.

ill keep it in mind.
But nothing ventured, nothing gained. :)
thanks for the advice though. :)

Ah, that sounds familiar. I had Pectus Excavatum too, and had the Nuss Procedure performed in 2007. I had the bar removed in 2009. I don't want to discourage you, since the procedure has a very high success rate, but to this day I feel it didn't work correctly for me as I still have shortness of breath/labored breathing sometimes.

Also, don't worry about the recovery being that bad. It took me about 3 weeks to recover from the inplant surgery (during which I had to sleep on a recliner). After that, you're back to normal with the exception of golf, tennis, or swimming. So, no real reason you cant work on the your armor project if you really want. The bar removal procedure was even easier: within 5 minutes of waking up, I was dressed and up and about, ready to leave the hospital.

If you'd like, I'd be happy to answer any questions you have, just send me a PM.

Here's one of my actual X-rays:

Good luck! :)

i know this is off topic but, holy crap i had that done 3 years ago! Although i had one of the worst known cases. By chest plate was only 2cm from touching my backbone. 2 bars are in me still. took 3 months to get a full recovery living in my chair, very painful but totally worth it.

more on topic. This sounds like it will be a cool build looking forward to it.

after giveing what you said some consideration, I came too realize that you are indeed correct. I tried finding some detailed step by step forums but had little luck with the search option. can you point me in the right direction?
I am sorry for sounding ignorant in my first reply, I am just a person that just doesnt give up easily.
this sometimes causes me too ignor the advice that others sometimes give me when it goes in a different direction.

I love the spirit and tackling a project like this. Heed the warnings of the others for their words are wise. Your starting off on one of the most difficult builds and everything you do will be completely custom. I’m not discouraging you from starting the build I’m simply suggestion that you start working on a weapon now and will help give you an idea of what’s in store for you. Just a couple of other considerations would be to come up with a budget of how much you are willing to spend on your project and what tools you may need to purchase or borrow to construct it. This will help give you a realistic projection of what your final product will look like. Your budget will determine whether it will look like a mascot or look like it’s flesh and blood from another planet. Wouldn’t want you to give up because you don’t feel you’ll reach your original vision. For instance I’m not familiar with foam builds but something like the skin ,You would have to use I think a product called Dragon skin ??? The molds and materials could easily run upwards of $1000s. As someone very wise once said “ try not ,do or do not …there is only try …Yoda ) bounce any of your ideas you have on the thread and the community here will be more than happy to give you any advice, tips and encouragement.

Veni Vidi Vici……you mean ….. Veni,Vidi ,Post Quam Statuo haha your tag that makes me laugh

Didnt he say "Try not, do...or do not. there is NO try"?
Because if he said there is "only try", wouldnt that contradict his entire point?
S'pose it doesnt really matter though.
As for the Hunter build, i know personally the problems with starting out with something too big, and the subsequesnt disbanding of the project. That doesnt mean you'll be the same though, you very well may have the skills and the Get-Go to do it and do it well.
Either way, i wish you the best of luck :)

okay guys, here are the first set of sketches that ive been promising you..:)

Would you be able to Link or send those files? Me and my fiancée want try our hand at making hunter armor as well. :)

I too am about to begin this process. I am hobbyist wood worker and costumer, though I'd still say I'm only an intermediate costumer. I am about to begin the planning stages of the hunter. I"ve found a few pepakura files for it, though I haven't started building yet. I have a unique advantage though, I own a pair of air trekkers that I'm going to mod into the feet, thus making me closer to the correct height without having to build clunky wooden stilts with no suspension. My main concern is if I for some reason can't use the pepakura, my dimensions will be off horribly.

Hey guys im back! I apologize for being gone so long. (lost the password)
Im glad to see some respone even after this long to the thread. While I have abandoned the project due to lack of funds, I will continue to do concept sketchs for those that wish to take on this challenging build.
ITS GOOD TO BE BACK!
