I joined this forum because I want to get into papercrafting. I don't have a good history with art projects, but maybe this time it will workout. I am trying to build a Samus Aran costume for next halloween but its hard finding pepakura images for her(even though I'm a guy I still want to be Samus for halloween!). I also want to do a Halo costume, preferably I want to make an E.O.D helmet because I think it looks sick and not many people have made one from looking through the forums so far. I'm really excited to start this artistic journey and since I have alot of downtime right now on figuring out what I want to do with my life, this seems like a good way to take my mind off the future.

I figured that I would make my first post here and get some information out to you guys. I am new to the hobby of building costume armor, but I am very excited to get involved. It is something I have always thought was very cool, but just recently have decided to dedicate time and money into it. I was actually doing some research on how I could make props for my son's Halloween costume this year, and re-watched the episode of Backyard FX Halo armor. I decided that next year he was going to be the Master Chief, and I would need to start working now if I wanted to make it happen. So I have a goal, and with your help I have the knowledge. I plan on using both Paper craft and the foam and heat gun methods to complete my first armor and will begin to post my progress here in the Noob forum shortly!

I live in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area, and I've been doing costumes at CONvergence, a local sci-fi convention, for several years now. My first masquerade entry in 2007 was Gamera vs. the Sheraton, which won Best In Show. I did Zebraman in 2008 (which was mostly forgettable), Godzilla vs. Barney in 2009, which won Best Workmanship, Predator in 2010, which won Best In Show, and a black leather dragon this last summer, which won an honorable mention for workmanship.

I've gotten together with a few other local costumers to do a group of Halo suits. I think we're going to be doing a group of ODST suits, but I'm not sure of the plan yet. I'll be putting my molding and casting skills to good use, as well as vacuum forming, and maybe some electronics as well.
