I sanded the helm first... just to lower some of the drippings from the resin process.
Then I do the following:
- apply bondo
- as soon as it starts to get hard, I would use a knife and cut off any excess and dig out grooves etc...
- as it starts to warm up. I use a file/rasp and start to shape it.
- after it has cooled down and is HARD. I use an 80 Grit on the hand sander and "SAND LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER SANDED BEFORE" LOL

This is what I have been doing all day... and still about another 30% more to do.

Thanks!

nice job man, havnt checked up in a little while (to busy trying to get my recon helm finished in time) Your doing amazing! cant wait to see it all come together!

Hey longshot quick question: How are you suspending your thigh pieces?
are they suspended by the COD peice? or do you have a "belt" thing (that has 2 straps per thigh)?

Progress Update

End of day progress update

Before the 1st test coat of primer.
Also showing the 12V DC fans that I'll be installing
12V Battery pack. This pack will also power the 6 Helm LED's.

Right after the primer has been applied.
Believe me! I had no idea that I would get the Helm this far today.

There are some areas that still need work.
Such as the raised areas...But then again I plan on using foamies for those.
Due to time constraints, I'll do what needs to be done and then use good painting techniques to make the raised areas look good.
im000138.jpg

Tiny bit more sanding and a bit of Glazing/Spot putty is all that's left to do before painting, electronics, Visor and padding.

Considering that this very piece was my 1st pepped piece as a noob!
It kind of makes me want to do a spartan dance.

To finish off the day. I find out that this thread got moved OUT of the Noob section. Logic would say: "I am no longer a Noob!"

Hmmmmm... does that mean I should change the text in my sig that says:
Let's see what a Noob can do! -- Yes I am a Noob!

to something else?
Let's see what a Noob has done! -- Yes I was a Noob!

Suggestions are welcome!

There is less than a week left till the release of Halo Reach. Even though its getting to CRUNCH TIME. I believe that I can still make it.

Im hoping to get the shoulder pieces to the priming stage by the end of tommorow. I am also hoping to start the black washing and detailing of the chest piece. Oh oh I'll need to frost more Plexi!

Cheers!

Hey longshot quick question: How are you suspending your thigh pieces?

They are suspended directly from the "Load Bearing Harness," from 4 points, which I have integrated into the SixSixOne Under armor. It worked better for me that way. Also that means that the belt is freely removable. Great for bathroom breaks. In fact I found out that I can SIT on a chair while in full gear with no belt butt plate issues.

Thanks very much! I'm hoping to get it presentable for the 13th (midnight sale)
Tha really won't be too hard for ya, Longshot. The only thing you're really missing anymore is a weapon, some bad guys, and a tank. What kind of vehicle do you drive? You should turn it into a scorpion tank... :p

Public test run!

Took the incomplete suit out for a public test drive.
Don't ask about biceps pieces... There the cheap rubies pieces (backup plan)
Everyone who saw me, smiled! I had several pics taken. Even though the suit is incomplete, the public response was AWESOME.

Helm is still wet with the base coat.
Detailing of the chest piece has started.
Frosted more glass for the LED panels.
More work to do!!!!

The Rubies bits make you look like Popeye.

I'm lovin' the stuff you actually made, though! It's sweet!

Same here... A little bit more sanding on the bicepts and then they get painted. Still on target for release date!

Progress Update

Progress Update

Bondo is DONE!!! Detailed painting is about 50% on the chest and 30% on the Helm
Shoulders are fully primed and ready for painting.

OMG its gettting so close!!!!!!

Cheers!

Ok, so there's cool, sweet, amazing, awesome, awesomesweetcool, HOLY FREAKIN' CRAP, and now, Longshot-X!!!. These are the stages of the "Awe-inspiring" chart. lol
I totally like the pic of you outside, that is awesome. Wanna make me one now so I can go out and get my picture taken. ...hmmmmmmm anyway, the chest and helm are looking absolutely amazing, keep up the push and let us know how reach goes. WAY looking forward to that post where you say "IT'S DONE!" good job!

Oh its far from what I would call "DONE" but it will be presentable for the release. I will not have time to install "Cortana" or the speaker system. Those mod's will be added on later. For now I'll be happy with just getting the following done:
- Painting
- Shoulder strapping. Very easy to do.
- LED's for the Helm, Shoulders and Torso
- Helmet fan, padding and visor. I might try for the dual visor if time permits
- Adjust the Chicago posts on the belt pouch. They need to be cut down in size. Discovered that when I took the suit out for the public test spin.

I also discovered that I can get into a vehicle and sit down with no belt plate issues.

However, I'll still post a "ITS DONE" report.

OMG: Sat Sun and part of Monday to get it DONE. I'm getting excited!

Cheers!

I was contemplating whether or not I wanted to invest the time in making myself Mjolnir armor...
Then I found this thread about a week ago and now its all I can think about. Just looking at the quality of your work though is amazing. You can't even tell that it started from card stock anymore, it looks like its actually molded plastic. Ugh. I can only hope my first set turns up half this good hahaha.
But seriously Longshot, awesome work and thanks for the inspiration. :D

Your most welcome! Sounds like your at the stage where I was at about 4 months ago. It is a HUGE decision to make.

The real secret to NOT making it look like card stock is in the Bondo and Sanding process. That's where you smooth over and round out the polygons. You are literally shaping the piece.

Good luck with your decision and build.

Cheers
