Im hoping to get all the painting details, padding and strapping done by the end of the day. That leave tomorrow for the LED's and some public test runs with better pics.

The rest of the mods can wait until after the Reach launch.

Cheers!

Progress Update

Progress for Sept 11th

Shoulder Pieces are fully painted!
All that's left are the LED's and the Straps

Now onto the Helm and Torso.

Cheers.

With the progress you are making I definitely think you will be done in time. The pieces do not look rushed either, great job and good luck in the home stretch!

I'm not rushing it. In fact I'm still going at the same pace as I always have. I'm just doing the essential things to get the LOOKs presentable. ie. No weapon, no speaker system, no computer, etc... Those will be things that I'll add later on.

"Oregano Satin" but with some black washing and a bit of Metalic dry brushing.
It looks tan because of the crappy lighting.

Cheers!

Torso is fully painted. (At least for Reach) All that's left are the LED's and the Ab plate.

Oh and cannot forget the speakers. I'm only going to put in the grills due to time constraints. I can install the real speakers later.

Back of the Torso.
Camera is at a weird angle

Now onto the final painting details for the Helm!

Cheers!

amazing! I love the detail. keep up the heavy posting and discriptions. I wish every thread was like yours. And the way your strapping is awesome. The magnets are a brilliant idea!

Thank you!

Ahhh the magnets! They are working out sooo well! If I take in a deep breath, I can feel the lower magnets pull away... but not too far away (1-3 mm) When I exhale I can feel the magnets close up. Excellent for snugness and freedom of movement.

Helm is now fully painted, (at least for Reach). All that is left to do is cut out vents behind the spot where the tubing goes. Cut and install the tubing. Install LED's and fan. Install the visor (dual if possible). Install the padding. ---- Plenty of time.
Don't mind the finger prints... It'll get cleaned up.

So far, Marathon Mode is keeping me on schedue for release of Reach!.. YAY!

Cheers!

Make us Canadians Proud!

Sadly I got deployed north and wont even be able to goto ANY release. nor get ahold of reach for at least 10 days after its release.

I love the led idea.
A note though. You are using a 9 volt batterie and what I presume are 3.5v led's. If you run 3 in series you dont need a resistor and less wiring ;)
Also To difuse the led's you can try two things.
1. Scuff up the tip of the led. make it real rough with sand paper. Or
2. the lazy mans way is to take needle nose pliars and simply snap the very tip. this destroys the rounded end and diffuses the light quite nicely :)

Sand paper the Frosted glass spray on the tip. Works real well.

They are 3.1V led's. Yes I have considered that and it's on my to do list to revisit the pieces that are remaining at only 3 leds. Some have more some have less. Ahhh the freedom to change ones mind and ADD MORE! LOL

I feel for you on missing out on the events. I'll make you all proud!

Cheers! And thanks for the tip!

Also if you want them dimmer. drop 4 in series and you get a less bright led but more of them.

I used to mod the original xbox to look all sorts of cool. And I do aviation electronics so most anything I can help out with :)

Test Fitted the Torso and Helm. Neck Seal is working.
Also measured the Bicep piece for the strapping.
Oh... and yes I can get into this without any assistance!

One more day of work left to do!
CHEERS!

Looks awesome!

I realize those neck seals are easy and with your time crunch I know you need it. Hope you build a nice neck seal after though. Something about them just doesnt fit with builds :(

I'm hoping to make a good undersuit for a winter project. This thread aint over yet! :p

Just finished blacking out the SIXSIXONE undersuit logos.

I think I'll call it a night. Need to get up early in the morn for some strapping and electronics.

Cheers!

Can't wait to see the Helmet in place with the LED's and such.

Hey longshot, what is the plan with the computer? How is that gonna work? I'm interested now...

Hey longshot, what is the plan with the computer? How is that gonna work? I'm interested now...

Hoping to get ALL of the LED's in place today.

The computer, Cortana, has one issue to be worked out. Placement! There is not quite enough room on the inside of the torso. That depends upon which notebook I use. There are a few places on the exterior that I am considering:
- Lower back, below the torso
- On the back of the torso. I'll disguise her as some sort of prop/weapon and magnetize her to the back.
- On the lower front, under the ab plate.
- Or I can take the notebook apart and distribute the components on the inside of the torso. I am a computer tech with lots of notebook experience.

Cortana will serve a few functions:
- Power the 4 USB speaker system
- Act as a PA for the Helmet Mic
- Play MP3's. I have all 3 Halo sound tracks and more.
- I'll turn on and add voice activated commands. Such as: "Cortana." (Yes Chief) "Play tunes" (Yes Chief) <music plays>.
- I'll move the volume controls from the speakers to a more easier location on the lower side part of the chest.
- I can add voice changing apps for the mic.
- I can add a webcam to the inisde of the helm (behind the visor and looking out) and record what the helm is pointed at. There's room.
- Lot's of possiblities.

But that will be for another day!

Time to start the last day of work!

Cheers!
