Update 11/15/07

FINALLY! First prototype Product Pull!

Just uploaded 10 pics to page 2 & 3 of my halo online album:

http://www.printroom.com/ViewAlbum.asp?use...6&curpage=2

We finally released the first prototype product pull from the molds - pic 70-79.
Now starts the laborious process of cleaning it up by sanding & bondo. Preparation for painting & assembling of lens & vent tubes.

Whew.....never thought I'd take about 80 pics on just the helm alone
I dont think I'll document each halo armor piece with the same number of pics as I did with the helmet - but atleast the helmet pics gave you all a preview of the molding process from Pep, mold to actual product pull.

So, what do you guys think?

I've worked with Mardon for the past several years with Boba Fett props. I'm Bountys Hunted on TDH.

This is what MLC stands for:

1) Accuracy
2) Communicative (how rare is that?!)
3) Turnaround time- With Fett Gear, we could go from accepting orders to delivering finished product in 8-10 weeks.
Consistently. For Years.
4) Props arrive sanded smooth and primered grey, ready to paint.
5) Satisfied Customers-
6) Every Single Prop is photo documented from it's creation w/ Illustration board to molding to final product.

In all these years, I have not gotten one complaint about quality or accuracy. We improved our Jetpack with input from TDH, none better resources for Boba or Jango Fett. None.

We have good relationships with other Fett propmakers. In fact, if we can't get it done in time for an event, we've contacted other Fett makers and referred business to each other.

The guys here are great, awesome, no question. Excellent artists and prop makers all.

MLC is well known in Star Wars costuming.

Soon to be well known in Spartan Armor Equipping.

Noob- that does not describe MLC, not at all.

Rex! You old coot! Forgot that you went Spartan as well! How did those 2 kits work out for you? Details bro!

Tim.

Playing around with head sizes:

Took 2 pics of the helmet being worn.....

First pic is of one of my workers (sleeveless) who has a height of 5'5" and a head diameter of 22" - he's uber thin! :p

2nd pic is of me wearing a Balaclava. I'm 5'11" with a head diameter of 23". I'm kinda a heavy set guy with a weight of 210lbs.

Arent you guys sick of this helmet yet? hehehehe :p

Anyway, while the helmet is being cleaned, I thought of working back to the forearm armors. I added 1 photo to page 3 of the album:

Let me know what you guys think.

BTW- I just thought of something.......

Would it be a great idea to have variations in the helmet's chin/snout area?
Since the helmet mold is composed of 8 sections - one of those sections is the chin area including up to the lower visor that reaches back to the LEDs.

We could rework (the master pep helmet) the front area of the chin or any lower visor part, attach the existing helmet molds all around, leave off the section mold of the chin & lay-up a new mold on the front area that would mate properly with the rest of the molds.
With that, we could have atleast 2 variations of the chin area - that is if there's a big difference between Halo2 and 3 helmets.

I was thinking of selling the original pep master helmet since I'm naturally going for our all fiberglass, lighter helmet......but if you guys think that having chin variations may be a good idea, then I'll hold off the sale.
But if you think that one helm is enough, then I have to sell the original pep helm to fund my growing expense on this costume :p

The original Pep master helmet started as a Slyfo Halo3 file at default measurement (19?), we resined the inside and added a layer of fiberglass, outside is bondo with cardboard details (whereas some card stuck to the mold when it was released).

Naturally, I'll take pics of it if/when we decide to sell it.

its perfect for both games. there isnt that much of a differnce between the games, other than more detail in the halo 3 one, now with the chest, all the variations are just in the front part, you could make a few of the armor variants of that? alot of people would really love that.

Ps Mardon, u have a Pm and email from me.

Wow, Mardon, that looks amazing. Really nice job.
And I don't think a different chin piece should be necessary, the only real difference between Halo 2 & 3 helmets was the detail they put into it. And the actual in game helmet variants affect the entire helmet.

Hey thanks guys - dx that idea then
That'll save me some moolah from an additional molding & now i could sell my Pep master helmet.
With that bit of money saved, maybe I should get my 4yr old a Legendary helm - as he was really excited while i was building the helmet ;)

Oh hey, look.......my 50th post!

What color?

Having my first MC helm, I think I'm going for the typical "MC Green". Was looking for Krylon Italian Olive, but Tim was kind enough to show an alternative since I cant find that particular Krylon paint over here.
I was able to call the hobby shop & do have the Tamiya TS28 or Olive Drab 2. Will get it by the weekend. Thanks again Tim! :D

While I was at the hardware store earlier, I browsed thru the rattle spray paint cans & got intrigued with a particular green called "Black Board Green"......while I'm very familiar with that color, both the cap & the catalog swatch didnt actually match the familiar color that I've been accustomed to back in school.....this is somewhat lighter in shade.

Anyway, since we're gonna primer my helmet anyway - I thought I'd get this can just to try out since it'll be sanded off anyway.

God, fantastic work, Mardon. Just, wow. I'm almost tempted to PM you about the sale of your pep helm, but I must resist, since I want my first suit to be made just by me...

(Thinking out loud. Not very relevant.)
So, your scale was Slyfo's default, which is 26cm tall, and it fits you (with a balaclava) at 5'11". I've got a big head, and I'm near 6'2", so I'm thinking 27cm. (My 28.6cm scale was a tad too big.)

To be honest, I havent mastered that "scaling" yet and I guess I was just lucky enough to find Slyfo's helmet file to be at par with my own. At first, I didnt think that Slyfo's file would fit me, but when I took off some of the pep card under the helm - I was pleasantly surprised that it fits perfectly :D

While i dont have an accurate answer to give to you - but I guess we all have to experiment & just trust our better judgement :p

Color.......

I'm enclosing a pic of the "black board green" I was telling you about yesterday. Since the helmet will be primered anyway, my worker painted it on the backside of the helm.
Please let me know what you think.

Sweet, can't wait to see your MCs! As for MLC and Halo, tell me about it! Looks like Mardon has done it yet again! ;) Oh and yes, very very nice work on the Clone bro! What did you think of my Fett [5 years in the making]? Mardon's JP has made it perfect!

Stay safe bro!

Tim.
