Man just saw the armor, thats freakin great man!i like the cardboard reinforcing. . .never thought about it, never saw it applied! i like it.and i read the part when the plaster stuff ate away at the foam. you should probably look up all the things that do that, cuz alot of things eat at foam. and just one point criticism, the shoulder pieces, well your left one, look a little low. easily fixed right?
More like what doesn't eat away at styrofoam. It seems like everything does. I did get a tip from Evilpenguin to use powdered filler and pva glue. I've yet to try it since I no longer have any exposed foam, but I did start making my backpack out of the stuff, so I'll probably test it out on that if I ever come back to it.
As for the shoulder pieces, they tend to slide down my arm, so I'm hoping to rig up some straps that would attach to my chest to keep them up.
i like those twists that make it not game exact, gives it character, and some personality
Yeah, I usually have "meh, close enough" attitude anyway, so it doesn't really bother me.
Wow, dude, just wow. It's looking great, and make me want to do some more touch ups on mine!
I like what you did with the visor, and the extra little pieces is a great idea. Mind if I "borrow" it?
So did the tooth paste method work well for the painting? How did you get them to look more like irregular paint chips with rough edges as opposed to blobs?
If you have the extra pieces to do the visor thing then I'd say go for it. I don't know if it would be worth buying another visor just to do it though.
I used my finger to apply vaseline and tried to keep putting it on in varied amounts and at different angles so it wouldn't all look the same. I was surprised at how well it turned out because I hadn't practiced on anything else first. I'd say it's a technique anyone can pull off, and it looks great.
Hahaha. Awww he should of just wear it for the heck of it. Join in the fun yknow? We'll have to wait and see. As of right now im hauling arse to get things done since this was last minute for me, but nonthe less im making pretty smooth progress. Can't wait.
I think the main thing about his build is he never could figure out how to do the visor. I now know about vacuforming, but I don't know if he'd be confident to try it, plus he'd need to build the table for it first. I think the look he has right now is like when their visors are see though so it's fine, but he may think differently.
loving your build! It really is looking epic!
I like the t-shirt idea... might have to use that on my security helm vents.
Keep it up!!!
Thanks, Matronoke. Hopefully the t-shirt vents do what they're supposed to. I'll let you know how it works out at the expo.
Helmet turned out looking great.
Thanks, Thorn. It's a little rough around the edges, but it looks a lot better to me now than when I first painted it. I don't know why. I guess it's just the satisfaction of having it "done" (though there are a few details that I'd still like to add to it later).
Great job Jonus! Your project is really coming along well. Keep 'er cranking!
Thanks, Satchmo. I'm in the home stretch. I'm trying not to lose any steam.
I finished pepping my second shin last night, and I sprayed them both with a base coat of my rubber spray. I think these will be the trickiest to reinforce with cardboard, but I think I might take a new approach to it. I'm going to just do cardboard corners instead of faces. I think it'll make them much stronger than how I've been doing them. What's the point of having an extra layer on the face if the glue comes undone on a corner? Hopefully this will make a nice sturdy frame, then I'll add foam to the faces to fill it in. These things are huge, but rightfully so. Jorge's look very heavily armoured. I'm still not sure what I'm going to do about boots. I might just have to look for something to buy that look army enough that don't stand out too much. I'm sure I'll have a bit of extra time to put something on them...
