Sorry to go off topic but I think RadioaciveMicrobe was right. They're real gloves used in the military to make it easier to use a gun so your fingers can be more tactile with the trigger if that makes any sense.
Snake wears them in MGS3

I think the pic on Bungie.net shows his first 2 uncovered fingers on his right hand covering his covered bottom 2 fingers on his left.
Anyways it's just a guess on my part, it maybe wrong.

Back to topic: Amazing work Link. Can't wait for updates. I'm especially looking forward to seeing the lower legs.

Yes i have, and they look EPIC! but ill finished my Landfall ODST before i start any of those.

It doesn't really matter if they're fingerless or half finger or whatever finger for whatever reason. Its all personal preference.

All full finger gloves can be made to be fingerless. Operators cut the trigger fingers off their gloves mainly so that they can have a better feel for the trigger. I cut the trigger and middle finger off my gloves so that I can better feel for my gear in the gp pouches.
