So the fiberglass doesn't adhere to the mold? I'm thinking of molding my Space Marine helmet. That helmet looks sick though.

Pretty much the only thing that sticks to silicone is silicone so no worries there. Actually there was a little dust on the soft mould from cutting the plywood and when I pulled the fiberglass it looked like i had just poured the rebound still glossy nothing sticks for long lol.

Ok, well thanks :D So was a trial size a good size for a helmet or would you recommend a second?

The trial of the smoothcast was dead on for one helmet but the rebound is cutting it close I would go 2 of em and get some thickner I skipped that and it took forever to build up the mould enuff.

What is the thickener called and could you add more silicone after the mold has dried?

Sorry for all the questions :p

Looks great Privateer! Man,you work quick!

You should put a thread in the classifieds for the 'interest thread' you asked about.

Well done!

Well there is a large package on the way from Reynolds Advanced Materials so cast should be flowing soon lol. On another note If I like the way the first pull turns out I will be making a new mould from it Im tweaking it a little here and there to speed up the prep time on the raw cast. updates with pics soon.

Cheers!

My god. this is what happens when I go and dont read a thread for a week. Dang man that looks beautiful!!! I can't wait too see a Halo Aviators Corps parading around!

We have paint and a visor I pulled a late night trying to get all the sanding and cleanup done so I was able to paint it this morning. The wife was feeling sick last night and this morning so I stayed home to watch the kids and her lol (and get the helm done). Let me know what yall think.

Great paint job. did you cut out the breather and add a mesh? What is it?

Thanks yeah the breather and the ports on the top of the helm were cut out and a section of steel mesh was installed the mesh comes from a readily available letter holder from the dollar store. I then backed it with a little black cloth so you cant see through it.
