You are promoted to a veteran when deemed worthy. An Elitist is a snob, so I hope you mean an elite. Becoming elite is a special promotion that very few have recieved.

You become a vet. when you reach 100 posts, and elite when you have a full set of high quality armor (I'm pretty sure with the elite).

Elite: Make something amazingly cool and well executed. Impress people with good work and elite status will come.

Yea, in truth, being a veteran and an elite is pretty much unimportant, other than the ability to post threads in other sections. It's all about making that armor, and contributing to the forum.
