New Foam Build

first and second reach foam builds, *PIC HEAVY*

I am re-doing just about all my suit except the forearms, shoulders, and helmet, but in foam!

quite sorry, i started this thread and then my camera decided to break. yea...order of options were not quite set lol.

but just so you know, i should have pictures tomorrow of the thigh that i built last night and my torso piece. I am quite proud of them so far and you'll soon find out why.

That chestplate looks really nice. I noticed that it looks like you built part of the underarmor out of foam too. Is there a prp file that includes that or something? I noticed that timecon included the same thing in his foam build of the chestplate. If I do a Reach spartan, I would like to include that underarmor part on mine too.

and thank you too i roughly used about 7 total, cuz i have many layers in the pieces for durability and to close off openings (such as the gap between my back and the back of the torso piece, which i layered up with foam). and like i stated before, i eye-balled the underarmor which took a lot of time to work out the angled and make sure the shape still turned out right.

nice nice... how is working with foam ? much easier and faster ?

it is pretty easy and fun, its faster for me because i was never really good at pepping and smoothing models. it all depends on what you are making , like of course helmets should be pepped and hardened, foam is necessary for files that have a lot of large flat surfaces

so I could foam everything except my helmet? how much would it cost me to make my whole armor ?

I cant exactly help you with that, it depends on where you buy the foam. i heard that harbor freights sell 4 for $10. but i dont have one anywhere near me so i get them at meijer 6 for $20. and i ended up using 5 sheets for my reach chest piece and odst chest core.

Well whatcha gotta do is spray it with plasti-dip spray which gives it a sturdy and smooth coating but still flexes. therefore, easy to paint on

I used to laugh to myself when I pictured the foam mats my kids played on could ever be anything other than the wrestling spot I kept my kids on to minimize bruises and every day I log on here to find them being turned into awesome armor! Kudos on the work sir!
