You're back! It really is great to see builds like this that I thought had been dropped completely be updated again.

Foam work is looking pretty darn good.
I am still working on mine. I've had some set backs over the last couple months, but should be back on it soon.

haha yeah sorry for the scare! I've been super busy and had to put the build on hold for a while. But i'm still kicking!

Glad to hear you're still at it! Hope all is well!

It's come a long ways. Looks great as well. :)

Thanks thorn! I just recently stumbled across your Gundam helmet build...looking pretty good so far!

UPDATE!!!!!

Alright guys, so last night I pulled an all nighter and banged out the cod piece. I thought the pep to foam conversion file was a bit too complicated so I just hand sketched all my stencils, transferred them to cardstock and then traced them onto the foam. Here are the pics! Enjoy!

I added a quick release clip so i could get in and out of the cod piece faster than pulling it all the way down then all the way up

More to come!

EDIT:

Also does anyone know how to do the elastic band thing for the biceps? I've looked for a tut for ages and can't seem to find one... :(

Alright guys so after not posting for a super long time...and procrastinating till last minute...I have completed the suit! The foam was super comfortable and allowed me to sit pretty much anywhere I wanted. I could kneel, squat, run, jump, you name it! It was so nice to be free in the costume and to participate more in the Halloween activities this year. I only have this picture up right now, more to come!

Sorry I didn't post any pictures of the painting process. I was in a mad rush and forgot to take pictures :p

Decided to repaint the ol' costume this year. Last year I was rushed with the paint job so it didn't go quite the way I wanted it to go. I decided on "Colonial Red" as the base color and Black for the trim and some metallic silver with some black acrylic paint over it for that scuffed metal look. I also redid the shoulders as last year the shoulders were a bit small. I added LED's in the chest and thigh pieces, and redid the helmet LEDs because they were causing too much a "halo" effect in pictures... Here's the final product!

New shoulders, old ones are on the left

Took it out to a block party tonight and entered into the costume contest. Took 1st place!

I like this a lot, really impressed with the finished product. If you don't mind me asking, how did you prime the surface so well for that stellar paintjob? Was it just well applied layers of platidip?

I was really strapped for cash when I built the suit last year so I ended up going with the cheaper method of using PVA glue (basically elmer's glue) and a water mixture (ratio 1:1) and painted it on the pieces to seal the foam. After allowing that to dry just your usual coats of primer and paint. I decided to go with more detail in the paint this year as I had more time to paint than in previous years and i'm really happy with the results. The big key to making it look real was using black acrylic paint in the "corner" areas to add more depth and that "grunge" look to the armor. After that highlighted it with some scuff marks in metallic silver spray paint using the dry paintbrush technique and then going over the dried silver with more black acrylic to tone down the shine.

Some pictures from Halloween this year...

Getting the ol' suit out for some awesome Halloween adventures!

Had an awesome time with these newfound friends. They all belong to local costuming group in Hawai'i and occasionally do photoshoots and such. Hopefully i'll be able to join them one day and get some epic pictures! Until next time..

lookes great:thumbsup

Thanks Noble!

Thanks majorflint! Glad I could be an inspiration! Can't wait to see some stuff from you!

Good job, everything looks awesome.

Thanks ErMac_! Your Carter build is coming along nicely! Keep up the good work!

So, a group of my friends and I got a call from a Microsoft rep in Hawai'i. They were pretty impressed with our suits and want us to help them out at a car convention. They're going to have a booth and be displaying their current games on the Xbox One, so I believe they'll have stuff like Halo, Assassin's Creed, Forza, etc. I can't wait to dawn the suit again! Gotta fix some slight wear and tear issues, but that shouldn't be too bad. I'm super excited because I usually get to wear the suit for 2 days out of the year, Halloween and whatever Halo release is due to come out that year. This year I've got to bust it out 4 times so far and with a new event just around the corner! So stoked! I'll try to get some pictures up of everyone at the event. We'll see how that goes...

nice pep work

Thanks Noble 10! Most of the suit is foam work though, the helmet is the only thing that is pep'd for this build. Love foam...so much easier to work with and a lot easier to wear. Once you go foam, you'll never go...well I can't think of anything that rhymes with foam that works with that quote ATM but you get the idea :p.
