Because it would make an already hot situation extremely hot and make you feel like passing out. I'm not exaggerating. Even the thinner 1/8" neoprene suits insulate enough to make you overheat on land. I know this from having my gear on too long while being on the dive boat. It would work during the winter months though :p

does anyone know what could be used for the vents on the side of the helmet? i'd like to use something that looks the part but allows for ventalation.

Under armor is failry expensive though. (or it can get to that point)
You could spend as much as $300 in some cases for 'good' armor. By good I mean it looks kinda scientific and cyborgish, but thats nothing that a lycra suit and a few minuts with a hot glue gun couldn't accomplish. :lol:
