I know this belongs in the Halo Universe section, but I don't seem to have the priviledges to post there. If a kindly moderator would move it to that section, I'd be grateful

Anyhow, I was reading Halo Glasslands and I can across this little snippet on page 213

ummm *slight book spoilers?*

"Hey, you know that suit maintains and upgrades itself when she's in cryo? It's all nanotech"

*end of book spoilers*

So yeah, I think it's kinda a ham-fisted way to introduce the concept, and doesn't seem to mesh with all that's been said about MJOLNIR in the fiction, but I guess that does give a mechanism for why the Chief can look so different between Halo 3 and 4.

I'm convinced that when Halo 4 starts, Master Chief will still be wearing/using his regular Mark VI that we last saw him in. I believe that in the course of the game (probably early on), he will get upgraded to Mark VII. The Halo 4 trailer was just to show us what suit he will eventually end up in, as well as some new weapons (that grenade-pistol thing).

All these theories about the change from MK V to MKVII happening while the Chief is in cryo on the Forward unto Dawn are based on a launch trailer, which are not meant to represent an accurate portrayal of events in the game, but only to display some new things, that's all.

Case in point: the Halo 3 teaser trailer:
Nothing that happens in that 1 minute trailer happens exactly that way in the game. It was just to showcase new stuff, like the return of the AR, the Mongoose, and the Bubble Shield (which made it into the final game completely different).
