hey man its 3 lights right, i had that just only last night, i searched for alternatives, i found one that worked for me,
First: remove hard drive
Second: turn on xbox
Third: go to settings, and click initial setup
Fourth: on setup, dont choose/insert a memory device when asked
Fifth: once done, insert halo 2 or somthing, (original xbox game)
Last: Turn off 360, insert hdd memory device, turn on the 360, play your game
***Note: this may not work for everyone, it worked for me tho, this was how i did it a little differently HOPE THIS HELPS
