Resining & Fibre Glassing Tutorial/How To

I got an answer for that from imMonkeyGOD before and he says two containers of the resin product (he didn't specify how much in grams or mL but they all seem to be about the same size) and three packs of fiberglass cloth for a full suit.

You should find it in hardware stores or arts & crafts stores. I'm not really sure since the nearest Walmart is miles away from me, but most other users here seem to get all their supplies from Walmart; check there if there's one near you.

On a one to ten scale of "I've never fiberglassed before" how hard is fiberglassing? And what if it's humid outside (i.e. raining)? Any tips for a beginner?

PS. I've read all the stickies... several times.... and I read all the updated posts every day.

Oh yeah, when fiberglassing a helmet, how many paintbrushes do you guys go through?

I'd rate it a 6 it's not really as hard as it looks, if you are willing to get your hands dirty it's a lot easier. I wouldn't worry too much about humidity, i've glassed things when it was raining and it had no effect from what i could tell.

The number of paintbrushes is dependant upon the style you choose. Some people glass the whole helmet at once and only use 1 brush, i however, prefer to glass it in sections(adding more as the previous starts to cure) which runs me about 3-4 brushes. That's why you can't beat the dollar store for brush packs.

Anymore Q's feel free to ask or pm

you could glass, but cloth makes it stronger. If you're concerned about fraying, quixand_prop came up with a fantastic idea of using spray adhesive to keep the cloth from moving around as you try to paint the resin over it. the cloth will just keep it from being brittle and cracking. not so essential if you're going to be careful, but definetely essential if you're going to sit on it.

That was a figurative statement, folks. Don't sit on your resin helmet. It doesn't end well.

So, what did the final count for resin requirements end up being? Somewhere in the market of 3 litres?

Yowza. Not so bad, I guess...but Wal-Mart doesn't have anything here, just Canadian Tire.

I'm a newb here, so pardon this question.
In the FAQ it tells you (Quite emphatically) to never fibreglass the outside of your piece. Ever. Only to resin.
And in this tutorial, it shows the helmet, being fibreglassed on the outside.
Which of these sources should I follow?

ok i have a question. when you people say "glassing", do you mean make it all smooth and shiny? if so, how do you do that? if not, what is glassing? lol this is my very first time doing ANYTHING with making mjolnir so im trying to get EVERYTHING straight before i start. I know there is no specific RIGHT way to do it, i have seen that posted in multiple places. I just want as much down as possible.

No, we mean firing plasma weaponry at it until it turns into glass.
Jk jk.
We mean overlaying fibreglass cloth on top of it and hardening it with the resin.

hey i need to know, where can i get a respirator and how much do they cost?
You can get them at Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight, any good size painter's supply. Cost varies by who's selling it and type you're after.
You could even get a military gas mask, that'll protect you from anything you'll be using.
