Restarting my Freelancer Medic

So it's taken me like 9 months to start getting some steam behind this project. Between work, and learning the in's and out's of Pepakura through trial and error...
But I had a whole week off last week and not only did I build a pelvic armor but decided to revisit my helmet to see if I could improve it at all. It came out better than expected so I decided to revisit some other peices I've made and restart this project.

I was going on this weird assumption that I had to be able to just slip into these armor peices and would scale them up so that I could slide them on. But then they always made me look like a kid trying on his dad's clothes. Just recently discovered magnets and other methods to make this whole process a lot easier.

Yeah, there are a bunch of methods of holding your armor on, magnets, straps, etc. Somebody will hopefully chime in about what they used to hold their armor on...

VELCRO. A LOT OF VELCRO. (Strong, easy, cheap.)

I know Velcro is popular, but I've also seen magnets and other similar materials used.

yeah i'm using the magnets to hold together the two peices on the cod peice. Going to do the same when I rebuild the torso at a better scale. I'll probably use velco somewhere between the peices.

Looks awesome! I used magnets for the cod piece as well. I also used them for the part on my chest piece that opens up so I can put it on. For my biceps, I used heavy duty domes because my undersuit has vinyl on it and is strong enough. Had to strap my thighs though. Only thing I found with velcro is it cause some fabrics to have areas of fuzziness if the velcro gets stuck to it.

I totally recommend domes if your undersuit won't stretch!

yeah i was thinking about using similar methods for my own. pretty sure i'm going to use these magnets on the chest peice and using velcro for the other areas. I'll have to look into those domes though!

Update on my medic! Finally got the hang of this whole scaling thing. With the helmet and torso I felt like I'd just gotten lucky or something, but I've made like 3-4 chest pieces in the past that have either been far too small or far too big. This one is coming together swimmingly thanks to the inclusion of magnets into my design and some elbow grease.

I'm leaving a few small spaces open for after my paint job in order to install lighting. I have more work to do in the back as well as sealing some parts down but I wanted to finally try on the frame I'd built to see how it fit. Starting tomorrow I'm going to smooth down some of those hot glue bubbles and work on finishing the rest up.

With this done the major pieces are all built and I can start working on the less detailed and smaller pieces like biceps and whatnot!

Sounds like you've already got the magnets worked out, but I just watched the turorial from Cereal Kill3r on installing magnets in your armor, and it's really good! (but kinda long) Hopefully there's some good info in there you can use! XD

Some progress! Finished the back up. Got most of the glue bubbles and rough spots smoothed out. What's left should be covered when I plastidip it. I've tried making like 3-4 torso's before and this one fits the best!





I also used my wife's photography camera to snap the pics. Amazing how the quality jumps with the right camera!

I've been jumping back and forth on that one. I think the white would go well with the color scheme I already have. I could maybe use red 3D fabric paint to do some accents and stuff on the suit like I've seen done on some Spider-man cosplays. but that classic black just keeps pulling me back every time I think this.
