Hello 405th, my most recent attempt to make something new and interesting ( as well as a possible short film ) has led me to the Spartan III's SPI armor from the Ghosts of Onyx book.

Now I really havent seen any type of work or files on this armor except for the actual helmet, which seems to be only a rough draft of it. So in hopes of finding some lost thread that has these illusive files or an already built set that i can get a rough estimate from, I think im stuck doing it from eye and the few pictures of the full armor ive found over the internet.

Hopefully someone can help me with this ( or give me alot of encouragement ) because i believe making such a suit from foam would be quite the undertaking without a general guide, although I probably cheat a little and use modified forearm, shin/boots to work out the hard parts.

this sounds like something to keep an eye on to me! im not sure if this is the helmet you found http://www.4shared.com/file/143477142/49fac894/spi_armor.html but if it is, i would think that i would just use the file itself as a base for some high detail bondo work. as for the other files, as far as ive looked (about a week or two cause i was thinking of doing a SPI) i couldent find anything else. your best bet might just be to simply do a hybrid of MK.6 and SPI armor. hope i helped!

Yeah, i believe a mix would do fine, but the chest piece will be fun to make. As with all projects, ill start with the helmet, any idea's for the visor ? i was thinking i would vacuum form it or something, is there any easier way ?

for the visor, i would think that a custom visor cut from 2 or 3 motorcycle visors might look pretty good, i'll draw a picture about how you might do it for you in a bit here, i've seen some pilot and EVA helmets come out pretty amazing with the cut visors. i find vaccuforming is a bit too much of a pain, but if you've done that before and were happy with the results, then you might get a visor closer to what it looks like on the pep file. just be sure that you do a lot of bondo work so that it is as smooth as possible, otherwise when you have your clear visor it might seem fine, but when you tint it you will see all of the ridges and edges. either way i'm sure you will do fine :) im sorry, but i might have to double post to show you the picture here...

Thats totally fine. Ive never done anything with a faccuform before, and infact id actually have to build one before I did anything, so using pre existing materials would be much better. Also, I did find another person who had created some files for the SPI armor, but they dident live up to my expectations. However the build from Soaring Hammer looked perfect and ill probably be following closer to that one.

Being done with the helmet, its actually not half bad, although the size may be a little to small but the refrence picture does have it fitting very snugly around the persons head, and not much hanging off

My main goal is to have it ready because Im going to attempt a short film with it, the only problem is that i suck with special effects and all that stuff, but I do have the a storyboard for it and everything
