Man, that helmet is. . .THE BEST! It reminds me of why the MkV is still my favorite of all the helmets in the Halo universe.
and why is this still in the Noob forum?!?!?!?! Its almost blasphemy to deny this topic the right to upgrade.

thanks Sgt Forge. it'd have to be one of my favourites too, it's kinda one of the reasons i liked the original game so much as well (besides the kickarse story), and i don't mind what 343i did with the Anniversary model as well :D ...

as for the upgrade and blesphemy? well, i don't know if i could keep up with the experts, i'm still only new to making stuff like this and i would hate for people to think i was some kind of professional model builder :) ...

this helmet is pefect omg!

thank you Kwameninja, i don't know about perfect, but i like it...

I love all the details of his helmet congratulations sir

That helmet looks fantastic! I love the mixture of all the different Mk V versions, (kinda all adds up to the perfect Mk V) and it definitely has an Anniversary look to it. Great job, Mate!

thank you Toja, if i had steadier hands i might have put even more detail in it... also, i'm more than a little concerned about what the guy behind the Joker is doing...? lol...

Hey man! This unique and GREAT work! Be proud!

i think it's the best helmet i've done to date, hopefully i can get better still... i'm thinking of making one of the elite helmets next, but i've got to finish this one off first :D ...

it was difficult to imagine what it was going to look like mixing all the MkV helmet together, there being one in every Halo game made by Bungie except Halo 2 (technically it was there, but as damaged parts), so i had a lot to work from, what to include, what to leave out. i think the Halo 3 helmet had the least amount of look in, mainly because i felt it was too modern for the style of what i was trying to do, but i think it came together pretty good in the end :D ...

Im with viking on this, its truly a beautiful piece :D

thank you Xamrymustang, you're too kind...

Fantastic work!
Loving the detail and the colour scheme. I like the brushing and wash technique that you used.
Cant wait to see more.

thanks Cereal Killl3r. i was iffy at first about the colour on a whole helmet, it looks fine as trim on my EVA, but i wanted something a bit daring so i thought why not just use the rest of the can on this project :D ...

i'm so glad that i did now, it makes the blackwash really stand out...

Very nice job, your helmet looks excellent and I really like how you intermixed the two MKV versions together and got it all to blend in perfectly, if your visor is a little see thru, take mirror chrome paint and airbrush it on thin on the back side of the visor it will block the light from coming thru and reflect camera flashes plus if sprayed thin its very easy to see thru it, Can't wait to see what you come up with next

Ok, so I didn't get any work done on my helmet after I washed my car for 6 hours?! (I did a whole cut and polish on it. Now I have a 14 year old car with a brand new paint job :D) I was just too damn tired to be thinking of the lighting rigs I'd need to design...

However, I did finish off my Plasma Pistol... I started to make this before I started the EVA helmet, I wanted to try out a mixture of powdered polyfilla and fiberglass, doing a sort of rotocast method to fill the interior of the gun as a whole...

I had to segment it unfortunately to fill it properly, but it worked out for the best, because this way I could wire it up for lighting effects. the original plan was to have an offset/counter balanced motor in it too so that you would get the feeling of an over charged plasma pistol when you pulled the trigger, but I was too tired yesterday to bother going to that much effort just for an experimental piece... I did wire it up however so that if I ever do regain my enthusiasm for this gun, I can always add it in later :) ...

I know it's not game accurate nor up to the standard of my M6b (check my sig) but like I said, this gun was just pure experimentation, and I learnt a thing or two while building it that I have since carried over to the last 2 helmets I've made. I've also bought even more Dremel bits/attachments since this piece, so I was kinda limited to what details I could add to it at the time... Regardless, I based this gun as a cross between the Laser Tag toy and the Halo 3 model...

Anyway, I wanted to make this feel like it was an obsolete model, hence the different colouring to the games. I made the plasma bolts out of casting and embedding resin (super clear fiberglass resin) with just a drop of paint tinter to give it the green hue... I didn't have to add much tint, it spread out like crazy once I started to stir it through, so I tried to get a mottled effect by not mixing it in quite as much, which unfortunately doesn't show up too well in my pics...

And here's a few pics with the lights out to see the plasma bolts lit up from inside...

I put a blue LED in the charge up display, hoping that it would turn the red a shade of purple, unfortunately it doesn't translate like that at all. Next time I'll make the display clearer so that the Led will have more of an effect...

So here's a vid to show what the lights look like when you pull the trigger... Exciting stuff, I'm sure to win a Grammy for this one...

And finally, here's a pic with my little blue friend Fred, for scaling purposes of course (he's of the 12" variety). He was so chuffed about me asking him to be in this photoshoot that all he could do was give me the thumbs up :D ...

Anyway, I'm going to bed now before I start talking more nonsense...

I should be back on track soon, so more updates to come... Stay tuned people...

hmmm :D ... i'll take that under consideration. i need to get a compressor, so this might be just the very reason...

Me Likie!!
Nice work, Loving the detail on the plasam pistol.
Keep'em coming!

all i wanted to do was try out the filler/resin technique, and the plasma pistol was the most low-def weapon i could find at the time to try it on. after i made it i thought i may as well put some extra details in seeing as i already had it... i'm glad now that i did...

Wow...The plasam pistol looks awesome.

thanks thorn, i'm trying to do a weapon in between each helmet i make, so even though i'm just releasing this one now, the next thing i make will be a weapon seeing as i'm just getting to the end stage of my MkV helmet... the problem is that there is just so many cool weapons to choose from...

Lovin' the paint job on that helmet! The light up plasma on the gun is pretty awesome, too!

When you say "Filler/Resin" are you refering to "Rondo" or would this be a differnt type of filler?

Once again another amazing helmet sir! I love the little hand painted emblems very steady hand with a brush. When I have a detail brush I tend to shake a bit much.

you're to kind. i'm watching your Kat build and it looks pretty amazing at the moment... wish i had your sewing skills...

wow this is fantastic man =D great, great job on the helmet =D keep up the great work

thank you Road Kill...

we don't have rondo here in australia. basically i mixed a polyfiller or spakfilla (spackle) in it's powdered form into the resin first before i added the mekp (catalyst) to the mix. it's the white powder that builders and renovators use to fill nail holes in plasterboard and architraves around windows and doors before sanding it back and painting to achieve a smooth finish...

this is the stuff i use. you have to be careful when adding it, too much of this stuff can weaken the bond of the fiberglass resin and you can end up with layering... that's one of the most important things i learnt from making the plasma pistol :D ...

thanks Warbringer. i lay a tissue over the work area so i can lean my hand on the surface, it makes my hand so much more steadier when it's resting on a solid surface. also, i don't load my brush up too much. like i said in my backwash vid, i can always add more paint in later, but i can't take it back off, so the smaller the amount of paint can sometimes be a good thing...

Hmm... Id never considered powdered wall mud mixed with poly resin... I would have "ass"umed that it would mave made a chalky and brittle solid once cured. I think that just out of sheer curiosity i will have to mix some up in different ratios just to see what happens.

Cheers and carry on,
You have the room!
