Looks awsome. I am sure you're having a great time explaining what your doing to the other folks on your watch. I have had some strainge looks from Captains when I talk about the armor thing.

What type of ship are you on? It does not sound very fast...

I'm on an ITB bulk carrier. Sea speed across the Pacific averaged about 13 knots. I've got a day-by-day account on my Myspace blog if you get really bored and want to know more.

Next port call will be next month in Hawaii, so with a little bit of luck I’ll have some more pep models done and there will be more hi-definition models available for download here.

Stay tuned.

Did you say Hawaii!!! LOL...Nah you already told me and also I did recieve the Torso from you!! Its actually a snug fit but it looks great!! Had some probs trying to get the "Great Stuff" off but its off...now I am trying to figure out how to attach my straps. Was wondering why the front was heavier than the back piece??

I will post pics of the Torso and if you want to know (other members), I believe his FS torso was set at 42 cm and from the measurements that FS was asking for, I am about 38 cm. But the Torso is really snug so I don't know if the pressure suit will fit? HMMM!!

Oh one more thing Thor...I was working on my Pred suit and came across something you will find amusing!! Next post with pics! :D :D

Wow, Thor, that is way more of an explanation than I ever could have asked for. And with pics?! Thanks a mil. :D

Really fantastic work. I've seen this same method used with toothpaste for the "scratch masking." Looking forward to your next update!

so you didnt fiberglass the helmet at all on the inside you used urethane casting? Sorry Im new to this...How does that differ from the glass?

Thor may be on the boat now, so he probably wont be able to answer your question... but with a reasonable degree of certainty I can say that he used PEP to make his original, smoothed it, and molded it. That helmet you see painted is a casting from his mold, hence his use of urethane casting resin for his helmet.

If this is at all wrong may Thor punt me out of his thread, and correct me like the fool I may be. ;)

Good luck on the rest of your trip Thor.

Spase is right about the casting method, but I think what Neo here is asking about is the reinforcing of the pep helm. And yeah, he used urethane resin instead of fiberglass resin+cloth. Quoted from post #1:
Step four, coat the inside with several layers of urethane casting resin for strength:

It's just personal preference. I think more people use fiberglass because it's more accessible and in most cases, cheaper.

Wait so do you do pepakura and then mold it from that?
Please familiarize yourself with the site and different methods of building before posting unnecessary questions in someone else's thread. The stickies have the answers I believe you're looking for.

Actually, just reading this thread would answer that question, but you should really read the stickies too.

Edit: Not trying to be a jerk here, just don't want to muddy up Thor's thread with info that can be found somewhere else.

Oh I would say I know a good amount already, never sailed an ITB before however. I have crossed the pacific at 7kts.

Not to make you jelous, but I was cruising at 39kts today...

Just wondering which visor that you went with. Ive been on some sites looking and comparing quality. If you could tell me what type and where you got it from that would be swell. PS. Your armor ROCKS!!! (y)

Hey all, just a quick update while I'm in port to unload cargo.

I downloaded the hi-res forearms and made a couple of sizes:

I'm picking up some fiberglass at a local hardware store so I can reinforce them for transportation and storage until I'm back in my own shop.

I'll be doing more fairing, molding and casting at the end of the summer, but first I need to get through about two more months of views like this:

I'll be building the medium resolution thighs when next we leave the pier.

Stay tuned.

And finally, here's a shot of me in the first set of painted armor so far (the shoulder is just a size tester and the forearm is one of Adam's, but you get the idea):

Hey, another question. When you made the mold of your helmet, did you make the mold after you had painted and detailed it or just after the bondo? I'm wondering because I would like to make a mold of mine when I finish, but I don't want to damage the paint or shield work and I was just wondering if the molding material is overly destructive to the material its being applied to. Sorry if you already answered this or a similar question.

He is unable to answer since he is on a ship on the ocean.. for a couple of months.
you should just scroll a few pages back, the answer is obvious from the pics.
