Okay, let me start by saying hey 405th! This is my first post. I've been checking this forum out for over 4 years now but never felt I had anything worthy to contribute back then. I actually found out about making armor because I had already known what Pepakura was. For most it seems to be the other way around. Anyway, now that I've made this a serious hobby of mine I figured it was time to make some friends with the same interests. ON TO THE POST!!

About two years ago I start making the ODST helmet pep by Kirrou. I, for whatever reason, took a long two year break and forgot about it. I began cleaning out my closet and ran into this:

And the dream was reborn. I hunted down the other pages and got to work. I finished pepping the thing (most pictures taken by a Canon t3i if you're curious):

Once I finished that (around early August) I took a temporary half month break to gather supplies, research, and focus on school.

Next I moved on to resin and fiberglassing. Piece of cake, right?

Applying resin to the outside was actually pretty cool and fun. I was nervous out my mind thinking it was going to warp like a lot of other amateur's first try but as you can see it was fine. Fiberglassing the inside was another story. I used spray adhesive to stick it in there and that worked great. Getting the top/dome area of the helmet was easy enough because there were no tight angled folds but from there on down it was crazy (and a mess). The two pics above are actually the finished result of both resin and fiber glass so you can see on the outside it was good but inside, around top of the visor its quite messy.
I tried having fiberglass off the edges of the bottom but it just wouldn't stick due to their being a small sharp angle fold there.

After finishing that I took a small break because I didn't have the funds/time to get bondo for two weeks. I did however have the printouts for a predator mask, boba fett helmet, and a stormtrooper helmet so I worked on that for a bit:

"What does that picture have to do with the thread" you ask? Well if you noticed, there's a motorcycle helmet on the right. My dad gave me that because according to him, his motorcycling days are long gone. I plan on taking the cheek padding from that and using it in my helmet.

Around this time I went to the DragonCon parade (I live in Atlanta) and saw this guy that inspired me to have a theme for my helmet:

We've all seen a ton of ODST helmets and MK VI Master Chief helmets so I say it's time we spice things up with some originality. My idea is to make a TRON themed helmet. Don't quite get what I mean? I'll show you something similar:

If you've seen an ODST helmet before (I'm sure you all have) you'll have noticed the ridges along the top (look at the dome-ish area):

I plan on making them wide enough to put some El Wire in. Don't know what El Wire is? Never fear, I'll show you:

It's pretty much an electric wire that lights up like an LED. So yeah that's my plan, time to Bondo.

Man that's a sweet looking concept. *Subbed* for sure. I'm looking forward to see how you hook the ElWire up.

I was nervous about using bondo because I've seen more than enough sloppy applications throughout my time lurking on the forum but after doing a few layers I feel comfortable with it. I only got to do the top because the next day I had to fly to Texas for a week (still there now). this is what I got done:

null_zps7d9ce6a0.jpg

I took my helmet with me to Texas and bought a sanding block and some primer. I sanded a little more then primed up the whole thing. I probably should have only done the top but I got carried away.

I leave and go back to Atlanta tomorrow so once I get there I can resume my work. So anxious to finish this.
P.S. I do plan to cast it so I can test out a couple other ideas of mine and send one to my best mate out in Dallas. So I'm going to hold off on building a vacuum-forming table and cutting out the visor until then.
Feel free to ask any questions!

Thanks Xaobringer. I've never had a chance/reason to use it before so I'm excited to see how it goes. Project ODSTron (still coming up with a cool name for it)

This build looks good so far! Pepekura is really tedious to me but the people who do it and stick with it always blow me away! I love it and can't wait to see the final product.
