i found using david's fastglas resin + hardener worked a treat for my iron man pep takes about 3 to 4 coats but its amazing and very cheap also to make things a little harder in weaker spots as an alternative i use tissue which once again works a treat other stuff i use p38 hope that helps people you can get all of this minus tissue from halfords or a fast car if you got one near you

Hey mr tattootoyou! Yeh fastglas resin is excellent quality stuff- it cures in the cold tempratures up here! However I've found it's quite expensive =/
It's good for small projects, but when it's for a suit and your faced with £10 a time, it's not as good as buying resin in bulk. Stevens fiberglass and resin suppliers, or East Coast Resins are both excellent sources for bulk resins- they come in various types and sizes depending on your project. Might be worth taking a look?

The body filler is to help the external structure and asthetic, you pretty much banged the nail on the head

Hi new to this thread, im going to start peps shortly, just been browsing at products and luckily i have a local halfords about 10minute walk tops but some things might be difficult to get from where I live anywhere I could get some nylons straps/buckles and velcro, decent respirator(s) and latex gloves(I assume theyll be in wilkinsons or something?) thanks for any help

Have any of the UK members completed a build with jesmonite yet? Have kilos of the stuff sitting at home, but heard that it gets real heavy when finished. Would like to finish my two pepped helmets with them if at all possible as I don't want to waste the stuff.

jesmonite question

hi every one i m currently looking at doing some foam armour but an put off that it might not be that sturdy was thinking of reinforcing the foam with jesmonite and fibre is this do able or will it melt the foam am thinking of using eva foam also have seen plastidip that i was thinking of spraying on as a finish external coat sorry if i ve put this in the wrong section or asked a stupid questions

Hey fella,

I have used Jesmonite but with little success when it comes to using it on pep. as far as using it on foam though it should be fine, It doesn't get hot like resins or other things like that, from what i can gather its like the acrylic version of body filler or resin. although maybe try a little bit as a test just to be sure.

Yeah the Uk plasti dip site. It's the cheapest out there. I think I found some on eBay too but not a great selection of colours for the sprays. I bought the 2.5 litre tin of paint on plasti dip and it's only half used after the ironman stuff I have done, a full Masterchief suit and a gravety hammer. I use it to coat my foam to seal, undercoat and smooth. Then use spray paints or paint on acrylics.

I have been using jesmonite for mine. i am in the process of smoothing my helmet and have fibre glassed the arms. the jesmonite does add some weight but not a great deal it is actually the fibreglass that adds the most weight.

Hey guys I just messed up on my vac forming a cqc lense. i kept my 4mm lexan A3 sheet in the boiler cupboard all week and then into the kitchen oven for 1/2 an hour to get it soft. apparently the thicker the plastic is in mm it needs way longer to DRY OUT. according to sources on the plastics websites....acrylic, perspex and lexan (polycarbonate) absorb moisture. when you heat these plastics for vac forming the moisture trapped in the (cells) of the sheet boil and form bubbles, blisters if you like. So as an example i'll be drying my next 4 mm lexan sheet for the whole 10 hours in the oven at 90 degrees F. Then i'll get it up to temp in steps. 150 - 15 mins, 180 -15 mins and the final 225 deg until the form drops visibly. i have my vac table and hoover at the ready on the kitched table while the timer runs. oh yes don't forget like i did that the a3 sheet needs to lay diagonaly acrosss the oven as the forms frame makes it too big to lay flat. yes allow for the size of your oven.80)3. a heat gun isn't going to let you melt lexan without bubbles. I do hope to get a nice result. Like they say...if all else fails...read the instructions..

Just thought I'd mention that I found this great site. It's got packs of 30 hot glue sticks for £2.12 (VAT included), and probably some other cool stuff. I was just brain storming today because I'm in need of bulk hot-glue but don't have much money at hand right now, and wondered where my college gets their hot glue sticks from considering they always have lots, but they're kind of expensive over here in the UK as opposed to the US where I hear that long-length glue is pretty much dirt cheap.

Hello just joined, I'm primarily a chippy, in theatre and mainly make props/sets, and I'm trying pep for the first time. I thought I'd share a company that I (and most theatrical creatives) get alot our tools and materials from. but particularly Jesmonite which I think has a better deal. Take note though because their a theatrical specialist there are times when they get very busy (e.g. panto times and summer). I prefer to do my orders over the phone as they will be able to check stock + advise.

Hi hexhellfire, if you mean the thick mat foam, both amazon and eBay have suppliers, and the thin 3mm foam you can get readily at hobby craft, if I remember a3 size sheets are around 80p, hope that helps
