Wip - My First Armor

This build is awesome! I have been going back and forth on if I want to use rondo or fiberglass and this build really makes me lean toward the rondo side even more, keep up the great work, I can not wait to see this thing complete.

The helmet looks fantastic and everything else is coming together nicely! One question, how durable is your cod piece? Like could you sit with it on without worrying about it breaking? I'm thinking about doing 2-3 layers of mudglass on the codpiece to make it sit-able :lol and I'm not sure if it will be enough or not.

Thanks, yeah I like rondo so much better the pieces that have been fiberglassed I plan to redo after the convention since the fiberglass really did get into all the spot to strengthen the whole thing. I will say I am going to try something new on my next build with using smooth on smooth-cast 321/320 and see how it works for me. from what I have seen with other people it looks like to will do really good.

Thanks Monicator, The cod piece is only one layer so it isn't durable enough to sit on and since I still think it is too small and I plan to redo it after this convention in 2 weeks.

Sorry it has been a few days since the last update had a few things happen. First I ran out of Gunmetal paint and had to get more but I must have bought the last to cans of it before since they had to special order from Richmond,Va and all the store I looked up around NC didn't have any. Secondly my camera has started to intermittently working and I called Sony about it and I was told by one Rep. that it was part of a recall that stopped so I would have to paid to fix it. The second Rep told me that there was never a recall on my camera and they wont help me even though I was told it was a recall before. So I have to go an hour to borrow my Mom's camera for my convention next week otherwise I will have to shake my camera every time I power it on. Well anyways here are the new photos of the armor process.

Well didn't expect that the flash on my camera would make the visor see-thru

Looks like its comming together nicely for you. Was impressed by how fast you are getting results, very nice work!

Well I don't really have any new pictures since my camera decided to break on me. I was able to borrow one from my convention this weekend so I guess the next photos I will have up here are going to be from the con. So you have to wait until next week.

I have now purchased my DragonCon membership and gotten a hotel room reserved.

Oh and does anyone have another site that does armor status the heavenofanime.org site isn't generating a picture or img tag line for me.

I have completed the armor and have pictures of me wearing it at the con I was just at. But I will be having to repair many things I was only able to wear it for about 2 hours before one shoulder completely broke off and then one hell ripped off my shoe so I have repaired to be done before going to DragonCon.

Awesome work man!!!

All you need now is a Weapon, so you can go PEW PEW on all the bad guys :p

Thanks, I have one of Lee's M6 pistols that is going to be on it way soon I can't wait to get it. But I have things that I need to fix up on the armor before dragoncon gets here and start on a new set of armor for next year.

WOW! You look fantastic! Way to go! I'm thinking about having the same kind of gunmetal color you've got but going to add some white trim details on mine and slap a spartan number on the chest :lol The codpiece looks a little weird to me though, but you said you were going to be making a new one so it doesnt matter. The shoulder broke off? Was it because it didnt have enough fiberglass reinforcement or what? I'm curious to know because I want to avoid wardrobe malfunctions at Dragoncon :lol When you go to do your repairs, I think you should also add some extra details to the helmet. I think there are some circles on the sides that are missing on the CQB.

The piece that is under the arm that is like a band broke on both sides. I reinforce the other shoulder with mudglassing since it broke when my sander hit it and snapped it but i didn't reinforce the other one since I thought it was due to the sander so I just need to do the same to the other one now. If you do mudglassing I think you will be fine I didn't and also some of the rondo was thin in some spots so I will be fixing that to. I am planing to upgrade the helmet I was just looking in wal-mart today for the faucet screens that screw on to use for the vent points, I had a problem seeing out of my visor since it fogged up almost instantly after getting everything on so I will work on a few other ways of venting too. This was a great trial run with armor so now I know what to do for my next set of armor

OK so I know it has been a while since I posted in this thread but I figured I would keep the updates and repairs in the WIP for this armor. I have had to do some repairs from the first time I wore it to my local convention and I also am updating the helmet since I could barely see out of it do to fogging up and it was really hot in it due to no venting so I am fixing that. I am going to show the damaged parts and then the repairs and updates.

Repairs yay! I like what you did with the bicep and helmet. The visor shouldn't fog up now. You gonna put fans in there too?

Your CQB look great. Any tips on how to keep the Biceps from cruching up like that?
Any further updates on the suit? Just curious really I'm trying to have mine done by Ohiocon..
