Yes yes. Hey it's pretty warm out here. You might be able to get some sanding done today if it's as warm there as it is here.

Well it's about 51... I don't get home til 7 XD SAnding will have to wait for a few more weeks :(

Rain, rain go away...and DON'T COME BACK! For a while at least. I really hate these rainy days.

Good news, finally got a printer. Now I just need time to print stuff out and start the folding. After that, I'll try out the Aqua-Resin on one of the models. I think I'm going to start small though since I only have the trial kit to work with for now. Do you think I could resin a whole boot piece with the trial kit, SKG?

yea i hate the rain...its been raining for a few days here.

yay you got your printer! im starting by doing the hand plates frist, i figure if i screw up really badly the first time, it wont be something as noticeable as like the torso. then i might do the biceps depending upon when robo releases them.

ps: what is the type of fiberglass used with this resin called, i wanted to know before i went to buy it.

@ Mags: Don't forget to SEAL the cardstock with the Krylon Clear coat :D And rain is bollocks! And Yeah I think ya can, I got most of my helmet done. The thick A.R. Bondo-like mix is what ate up all my powder XD

@ Rach: The fiberglass veil comes with the starter kit and is in 3 thicknesses. You don't need to buy it right away. I suggest waiting and learn how to use it before you buy it. You also have to buy it by the yard, kinda like fabric :D

ok good, cause i was wondering what i was going to do about the fiberglass. but if i were to buy the buckets of resin, id have to buy it separatly? and what would you suggest to use for the boot? is this AR strong enough, or would something else be recomended? or just this stuff, with a thick fiberglass.

Yes when you buy the larger quanities you have to buy everything seperate, but the prices, to me are decent. The fiberglass stuff is pretty rock solid, though I have not dropped or kicked my helmet to see how tough.

im thinking about buying it in large quantaties cause i dont know how often ill be able to get into NY and it would totaly suck if i ran out before i could get more.

when you drop kick your helmet tell me the results

SO this might be a slight Necro. I FINALLY got my meat hooks on 2, 4lbs bucket of Aqua Resin powder.

They're $19.99 each, the gargantu bucket of 26lbs in $100.00, and I can't carry that much damn powder 15 blocks to the subway XD

And per usual no sanding updates, though I can raid my friends Backyard and sand there if need be. Though now that I understand stuff has to be smoothed in sections (Doyeeeeeee)

Anyone else test this shiz??

haha, i think necros are only when someone randomly posts a 'its lookin good' in a dead topic. "NEAAARRR!!! I HUNGER FOR UP-DATES NOT POST COUNT FILLERS.... AND BRAINS"

I'm hopefully going to start work on my armor soon. I may be testing in a couple weeks.

i finally made arrangments to get some of this stuff some time this week so ill be running tests of my own. but before i go spending my life savings on resin i wanted to know what to buy. i dont know if i should buy just a trial verison or one of the 4 lb tubs. normaly i would say trial, but i dont have that many chances to buy this, and i dont want to run out mid project. and SCG you just preped you pep pieces by spraying it with that clear coat stuff, then added resin right on. and how thick did you apply it. 1/8 inch?

Rach: I suggest calling ahead of time before you go in.

This is what I recommend for a full set of armor:
1x Trial kit (test kit to see what does what and you'll need the instructions to read the safety and handling info) $14.99
2 x 4.4lbs buckets of Aqua resin S3 Poweder $19.99
1 x 2.2 "L" liquid $19.99
2 x Krylon Clear Coat Finish in Satin
3-4 yards of the Fiberglass Surfacing Veil
4 spatulas (different sizes)
Gloves
Eye protection
Respirator or a sturdy dust mask, better overkill than not safe at all
A good amount of sandpaper
Masking tape (to section off areas as you add the smoother)

You can just use some plastic party cups to mix the Aqua Resin.

You use a lot of powder compared to the liquid, so that's why I stress getting 2 buckets of powder, and the smaller buckets are very hard to get. I bought 2 this weekend and they only had about 3 left after I nabbed em'.

All the supplies you need may run close to $100.00

Good luck kiddo :)

ooo nice a shopping list! an expensive shopping list.....but for the first thing i buy, should i just get the trial kit? is it enough to cover a helmet and the hand plates? since i dont get into the city that often i thought i might just get the 4 lb but that would be really have to drag around with me all day, cary through the subways, and onto the bus. or should i buy both the trial and 4 lbs so i dont run out and i have the instuructions? iand what is this smoother you speak of?

Well, while it's an extra $15, it gives you what you need to completely finish a small section of your armor and all the triala nd error you'll need. There is enough to do 2 handplates, but not enough to do the an entire helmet.

If you want to do the whole suit, get the A.R. quanities I mentioned above.

Since you can't get into the city often, I'd buy all the Aqua resin stuff, and you can get everything else at a Michael's, Home Depot or Lowe's.

I'm not sure what your schedule is like for coming into the city, if your visiting your family in Brooklyn. What I'd do, since The store in in the West Village on Vandam Street (you can take the E, C and 1 train), buy the stuff early, then take the train back to Brooklyn, and then come back into Manhattan. It sounds like a lot of trvaeling and you could gobble up 2 hours in transit time, but it'll save you hands and arms a lot of trouble.

The "smoother" is what happens when you add more powder to the "L" liquid, it makes a Bondo-like material. That's why I am more inclined to this. And it cures in about 30 minutes and it's not flammable or toxic.

yea i think ill buy both the trial and a 4lb power and the 2.2 lb liquid thingy that sounds like the best option even though it'll be a pain to carry. and ill attack the store really early so im the first one there. that is if my sister is willing to get up and take me there that early. thanks for all the advice. ill post the test results. i think ill be testing a piecs of cardstock that isnt sprayed with the clear coat stuff, and how much dammage this stuff can take!!! sledge hammer anyone?

Rachiav, not to be a goon, but if you look at my earlier posts, I posted what happend to stuff you don't coat. It'll collapse into a wet awful mess. You HAVE to spray it with the clear coat to make it water proof and You NEED to buy fiberglass to add the support!

yea i read ur posts im going to spray it for my pep pieces, but i mean i might do some random tests on scrap cardstock to see the results. youre right though, that one is pretty obvious and doesnt need to be tested. might try something else, but i dont know what.

edit:wait i know. maybe see the curing time for exteme tempetures like hot or freezing.

So I had another breakthrough on the Aqua Resin... or more like breakdown.

I fiberglassed my torso this weekend... and I figured I'd use the thickest Fiberglass. Well it's great for support, but due toi the weight of it with the A.R. on it... I warped my Torso... this was the HD FS version... yes there was wailing and gnashing of teeth and I wanted to die a little. I also tried it on over my Underarmor and it's too small(more wailing in sued after this).

I fiberglassed the back of the torso with the medium thickness and there was no warping since it took less A.R> to coat the FG.

So... if you're using A.R. get the medium thickness of the fiberglass. it's lighter and it takes less A.R. to give it a good coating.

I'll post my R.I.P pics on my armor thread :(

the whole torso is ruined?! or just the front? i hope this doesnt happen to me, cuase i kinda dont have any support things in mine :/ i will keep this in mind when (pending i actualy get time to buy the AR) i fiberglass my own stuff, and ill check to see those tragic pics.

Nah the front just got jacked up, though the front looks more boobish haha which could be a good thing, it just doesn't line up with the back XD

I'm just going to rebuild a low-res version and add the detail.
