Link, do you think the arms would be strong enough if they were cast pieces? I know you have used different materials, what do you think would work?

I have more questions for experienced molders / casters. If you look at my past pictures you see the front piece I need to mold / cast is about 1/4" thick, I assume it would be best to cast that in a solid piece because it needs a finished appearance on the inside and out. What material would you recommend? I also need to cast the main body of the gun, should that be done by slush casting or solid? I am just starting to read up on this aspect of the project so any suggestions would be good. I am not partial to any kind of materials so any suggestions would be great. Thanks guys.

Here are a few more pics. I have the blade arms mocked up with the mdf blade templates. I cut the center out of the arms and now I will add in the center detail. I have multiple in game pics of this part but I cant seem to see exactly how or what that center detail is. I have some ideas so I will try them out and see how they look.

Here are the newest pics. I am still working on the blade arms. Some more details will be added where the pencil marks are. Do you guys think the round silver parts are to big? I think they are larger than the in game versions but they are parts that I have easy access to. I really dont want to custom make anything. They will be painted as well so they wont be so noticable. I dont want to use anything with screw driver slots in them and these are all I could find so far. The top ones stick out the back about 1/4" so I was thinking about casting the piece with those in and having the mating holes in the body. The pieces could then be epoxied together when building it. I realy dont know if the plastic would be strong enough, I have never used any plastics like this before.

This is amazing. Very nice work. You have god all of the detail in it. When you finish up the painting make sure you add scratches to the places where you would expect there to be dents, and where the brutes fingers would scratch it when getting angry.

Ya, it needs a battle torn look. The aluminum blades are roughed up so it does look like it went through Master Chief.

Absolutely UBER-lishous (?)! So far this is looking increadible. I am currently making a Mualer, but I doubt it will come anywhere close to your spiker. Any chances that you be selling your first one? xD

I should be selling some copies after its done. I am going to try the whole molding and casting thing, making this by hand is only a one time project. It is taking me forever but its getting close to done. Thanks

In the imortal words of Sargent Johnson ... "Hell Yeah! You better run you Covenant basterds!"

I cannot wait to see how this looks once its finished. One question though, is it accurate size? By the pictures I can kind of guess its size, but I just want to double check. xD

No its not the game size. That would be way to heavy and look crazy if someone was holding it. Its sized down for human use. I will measure it later.

Well the blade arms are finally done, it stands on its own now. Next I will finish the led wiring and final prep for molding. Right now everything is coated with kilz primer, do you guys think I need to paint over that before molding it? I could do a final paint first if you think it would help the silicone come off easier. I am experimenting with dark blue colors at this time but I have not found what I like yet, any suggertions would be great. Its time for me to pick a silicone and casting plastic. What do you guys think? There will be multiple pieces for the cast. The main body(hollow cast?), the front body (solid cast?)(slips over main), and the blade arms (needs to be strong solid plastic). I dont know what to pick yet.

you know wat you should do? take those blades off...get some real metal...and a blade sharpender..... then use your imagination ;P lol

lookin effing amazing man!

I don't know if that primer will stick to the silicone or inhibit it's curing. To be safe I would spray the whole thing down with a mold release that's compatible with the silicone you plan to use.

The two main silicones people generally use that I've seen are Rebound-25 (brushable platinum cured, I've been happy with it) and Moldmax-30 (I don't know much about this one, but I've heard good things regarding it's quality). Also, fiberglass mothermolds are so much more awesome than plastipaste for form fit, strength and lightweight.

This is looking really great smick!

Smick....DUDE! Thats like more accurate than weta's. And the detail is incredible. Why are you setting the bar so high!?! Its GODLY.
