Hi, i found this in our house and when I google it i found this.......

Dry Wall Joint Tape: A strong fiberglass meshed tape that acts as a reinforcing agent which grips the joint compound when patching to permanently hide joints, cracks, and holes.

Have anybody used this? or something like this?

Can I use this as alternative to fiberglass mat/ cloth?

thanks

I've seen threads like this, and no. Fiberglass works like this.

Resin + Fiberglass = Heat = Melted Fiberglass = Strong Plastic

So this wouldn't cause a chemical reaction or absorb the resin.

Yeah... The tape won't reinforce anything. Your best bet is just to pick up some fiberglass mat/cloth, and then 'glass a piece of your armor. You'll see what the dealio is when it dries. :)

I like to use mat/cloth but maybe I am afraid to use mat/cloth.....hehe

I want to save money too because I saw this kind of tape lying around in our place so I was

curious if it would work....hehe.....Just wondering because the decription says it is a type of fiberglass......

thanks.........I will try it first on small scale......if it will not be as good as the real thing then I will use the real thing....hehe...

thank you....

yes it would work but you will most likely have to put something over the top like sigma said like fabric of something thin that will soak up the resin but yet again being not made for that exact purpose expect different results

Yes it works, hell old T-shirts work. Just not as tough as if you use the real stuff.

I actually tried the old tshirt method the other day... Hardens up pretty good. I was curious to see the outcome. :)

Yes, you can use that tape, it will work perfectly with resin. Don't listen to the naysayers :)

You just need to use several (6-8) layers, and apply it overlapping in different directions.

There's no such thing as "chemical reaction" "melting the glass"

The purpose for the glass is to keep the resin from shattering. Same way steel rebar is used inside concrete.

Can't build a bridge with pure concrete :)

yeah....thanks.......that's what had in mind, the re-bars and concrete.....thanks man......

it is good to for body fillers...

It will work as CPU64 said, but you'll have to use more layers and you'll spend way more money on that tape than you would on some fiberglass mat or cloth.

Yeah you can buy clear resin and dyes made specially for that purpose. But what is the point of doing so?

But, like CPU64 said, use quite a few layers. I've tried it with 1 layer, which felt like it was simply resined, whereas with three it felt about half as strong as normal mat or cloth. Try to arrange the tape by overlapping the holes on the previous layer. That gives you maximum strength.
