I wish I was in the UK!

Only so you could hit me for not having Sergeant Johnson! I KNOW YOUR GAME!

I knew I should have included Sergeant Johnson.

i think no johnson would be good. just to give it a view of the brittish side of the UNSC.

im dying to be in this movie!!!

Agreed. Putting the Sarge in would just make the film more of a well ... fany-flick. This has turned into something a lot bigger than that. I wish you all good luck and I may just have to fly over to England some time and stop by the set.

Just a little tip Peter, in case you need it: When you have to use 3d models of Cov or UNSC vehicles, instead of reiventing the whell, you could just use the ones the people over halomaps.org made to use on their custom maps. They're free and pretty decent, a little bit of tweaking in some 3d Editor (like 3DS Max) and u should have some very good results!

No, those are meant for games, and not for movie CGI. Not to mention the most of the vehicles underwent a reasonably significant overhaul between halo 1 and halo 3.

Hopefully when you are filming this stuff I will be able to come for a visit, I might be 16, but I'm tall and if you cover up my face, you'll never know I was younger than the rest :p

no johnson?!?!

Edit number4: there was an amusing little gif with stick figures running around after the comment, but i fail at adding them into threads :D.

but its kinda nice there's no main charatcers, so new ones have room to grow.

I can't believe I have only just found this thread, What an amazing read, Can't wait to see more of the warthog.

Wish I could have been in th movie that would have been awesome but anyways.

Keep up the good work peter.

Sure, but as I said: they just need a little tweak. Tweak the materials over the model, change a bit of the original geometry and you should have a Banshee as good as those depicted on Halo Landfall or We Are ODST ads (keep in mind that vehicles like Banshees only show up for a few frames, in BG, in motion blur...).

Another thing worthy pointing out: Theres a LOT of models from Halo 2 and 3 on Halomaps community, some of them were ripped from the games itself so theyre good enough for CGI shoot on a film.

The equation is pretty simple: 3d model + tweaked materials and geometry + post production effects (eg.: color correction, force motion blur, camera tracking, curves...) = pretty decent CGI vehicle to use on scenes such as Banshee flying, Pelicans on background, Scorpions and Hog moving and exploding on bg...

*As soon as I can, I'll make a video test to show how that could work out.

the hog looks great cant wait to see it all finished i have a 84 bronco i was thinking about cuting up into a warthog i just dont have the time right now but it is in my future plans

Thanks guys. :)

With regards CG models, Sean may feel that more precise models will need to be made. That's a decision that will be made nearer the time I think - but thanks for the link. I'll keep it in mind. :)

Probably this question has been asked before, but when do you think you'll start filming based on what you guys have finished so far and what needs to be done?

Don't take this wrong, I'm not asking for a release date, just when you are filming, if I plan to drop by the set I'd need to know if that would be during my holidays :p.

We're hoping for March-April shooting.

Hey, men, you all doing here great!

I think you must seriously consider build of... SCORPION!

Why? Cause it great asset to your film. It simplier than warthog - all you need is wooden frame and plywood or even cardboard sheets :)

And! At the end of your film shooting, you can even really BURN IT for effect!

If you will build it, I'll be glad to supply all the technical drawings and any other material I have:)

Well, in reality, you could just manufacture it out of plywood. It really doesn't even need a major movement system. You could probably power the whole thing with a few high power electrical motors and gears. Man power could also be an option.

Heck, not even that.

Why not build a swamped Scorpion? Stick it in some mud, and just use motors for the turret. It'd be a cool effect.

Heck, you could even 'swamp' it above the tracks, the most detailed part of the scorpian.

You don't need a single motor either...don't attatch the turret, let some people climb inside and move it with handles places on the inside, the only detailed bit then would be the cockpit for the operator as he is in the Halo universe. Though even then, it's a tank with a hatch, you could easily hide that.

Money and resources are not the issue, but time and skill could well be, the bigger something becomes the more likely it is to look fake, it could take some effort trying to make some plywood actually look like a full scale metal beast. Do-able, but it might not be worth the time to create it.
