Hi all-

I'm brand new here! :D Although technically, I've been stalking the 405th for months over the course of this build, my very first. I started this in late December when I was on winter break and got bored of having nothing to do... But then I got bored of the project itself, oops. I'm terrible at setting my own deadlines. But in September I decided to have this thing done in time for Halloween, which is kind of insane because I'm in school and at the time I only had the back of the torso, thighs, knees, and shins done. Oops. But somehow, I am succeeding! I only have to build the helmet and redo the thighs now. And here is the progress, although it's a little late.

I started with pepakura templates unfolded for foam, but found those didn't work as nicely as my own hand drawn templates. Regardless, I had too much work put into the back of the torso to try to template it myself and start over, so I kept it -

Then with the front of the torso later on, which I made with my own templates-

And now in the current state, with the rest of the torso finished(not yet weathered with painted details yet)-

The ab plate attaches separately on the inside of the torso with velcro, so here's that by itself(weathered and everything now, forgot to take a picture -.- )-

The arms are now 100% finished as well, sans attachments to what I'm wearing underneath-

(both of these are weathered now but the comparison is nice)

Legs are mostly done, except I want to rebuild the thighs. They were the first thing I built and not only don't fit well, but look disproportionate and generally much worse than the rest of the build. Here are the shins and boots-

Although the belt is coated and painted, this is the only picture I have right now...

I think that's all!! I'll update over the next week while I knock the rest of it out :)

Some of the attachments cannot be viewed. But the pieces that are visible are very cleanly made. All the best for the completion of your armor. :)

Forearm.jpgThe attachment issues is indeed fixed. Good work on adding thinner foam in layers to increase the level of detail on the piece. I recently did that on my Halo 4 Master Chief forearm piece and it made it look so much better. :thumbsup

Wow, really great work!

Those boots kick!

Thanks for the praise guys! I finished up weathering the shins and started painting the boots last night, and I might post pictures of those later today depending on what I get done. Quick question though... I have no idea how to go about building the helmet out of foam. I plan on making the Commando helmet, because my only last-minute option for a visor was one out of a kid's Master Chief helmet and the visor shape is most similar in the Commando. Could someone direct me to some threads that outline the process of building a helmet in foam? I'd prefer to be able to draw up my own patterns as per usual but if that's an impossibility I'll just have to go with it I suppose.

Looks great so far! Also don't sweat the deadline it can be done lol! I had the same goal in mind for my odst and just added the last piece a few minutes ago. It's just a long cycle of college, homework, build sleep and repeat. Also for the helmet maybe print out a pepakura model and use it to make foam templates. That's how I made a lot of last minute stuff on mine.

Quick update... tried everything on tonight just because. The shoulders and knees are just held on with tape for now. I'll be wearing different leggings.
